COURSE TITLE:
Industrial Instrumentation and Control

OVERVIEW:

This course covers the fundamentals of instrumentation. It deals with the principles of instrumentation and control devices including its operation, design, function and installation requirements. It also covers the fundamentals of measuring common process variables including pressure, level, flow and temperature. Practical demonstrations and hands-on exercises are part of this module to enhance the knowledge and skills of trainees in the proper installation of instrumentation and control devices. Personal safety and instrument safety are also covered in this training program.

COURSE OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of the module, the participant must be able to:
• Read and interpret basic installation design and instructions for installing instrumentation and control devices
• Identify the proper tools, materials and equipment for installing instrumentation and control devices
• Identify, use and operate the proper test equipment for installing instrumentation and control devices
• Carry out different techniques and methods for flow, level, pressure, and temperature measurement
• Install/connect instrumentation and control devices correctly
• Read and interpret process and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID) symbols and instrument loop diagrams
• Apply safety in the proper installation of instrumentation and control devices
• Basic operating principles and responses of feedback controllers
• Manually tune electronic controllers
• Determine when a controller is correctly tuned.
• Understand the operating principles of cascade, feedforward, and adaptive controllers
• Understand the health and safety implications of working with closed-loop control systems
• Identify the various methods of signal transmission
• Understand and master the concepts of Process Automation, DCS, PLC, SCADA, HMI, VFD, etc…
• Correctly connect electrical and air-powered devices
• Correctly use a range of industrial calibration equipment
• Correctly connect, commission and calibrate current loop devices, temperature transmitters, pressure switches, pressure sensors, DP cells, ultrasonic level meters, load cell amplifiers, i to p converters and hart devices
• Understand the principles of turbidity, density, ph, and weight measurement
• Identify the capabilities of controllers from their exterior markings
• Configure a range of industry standard electronic controllers
• Etc…
