That person seeking a test right now is an unserious fellow. They are only testing those with symptoms such as fever, cough and body aches who may have been exposed to an infected person. There are very limited number of testing kits to go around, so yes of course screening is selective. Even in America and Europe, they are only testing people with symptoms, so why did your friend think he can just get tested like that?

Don't you know that you have exposed your foolishness in the public domain without any deep intellectual meditation. From specialist hospital to NCDC offices, no organization accepts responsibility for testing, you are talking about testing based on symptoms. Do you know how many Nigerians have the symptoms you mentioned above that are walking about the streets? Do you know if any of them have such symptoms? In Lagos center, despite the money made available to NCDC and the large population of people in a crowded state such as Lagos, how many have they attended to? If Lagos State has relied on NCDC, situation of things would have gone out of hand. The same thing happened during Fashola regime when there was Ebola virus, NCDC was virtually on holiday. Even, if person on emergency on covid - 19 had been taken to those places, that is exactly how responsibility would have been shifted from one organization to the other, but if it is to share WHO, USAID, EU, CIDA, JICA and other donor organization funds, then everybody will claim to be involved. You people better wake up.

Don't be foolish, and stop misinforming the public, No European country turns their back at citizen willing to get tested, even USA just approved a 5 minutes test kit.
Did you read the post at all? How many confirmed cases in Nigeria exhibited COVID-19 symptoms before they got tested? Any responsible citizen that had contact with a positive person must present himself/herself for a test and according to the OP, such a person would be treated the same way and the virus would continue to spread.
Our Government is irresponsible because of irresponsible people like you that defend them.

You are another dyslexic person who cooks up stories in his head to justify his beliefs. I repeat, USA is not testing anyone without symptoms. Abbott came out with a 5 minutes test 2 days ago, it hasn't been massed produced and there still isn't enough tests right now to randomly test 300 million asymptomatic people. Read the foreign news media more often, stop thinking your government is out to sabotage you.

How are you sure they have no symptoms? Can American organizations shift responsibility even before the patient is tested?

I don't respond to replies like this but I strongly believe you're either ignorant or you choose not to be honest. Did elrufai present symptoms? What about Davido, Aba kyari and the rest of the governors and politicians that have been tested?

It's a game of important people first. We need to demand for accountability from them. Why don't they have enough test kits with this virus being around for over 3 months. Why are we just creating isolation centres when we could have banned travelling?

Lol, so now you are in the same echelon as El Rufai? Guy please stop making laughable arguments, it will permanently soil your online reputation, remember your comments can be dug up later in life. President Trump displayed no symptoms either, but he was in a meeting with people who tested positive and he had to get tested. Of course members of the top ruling class such are presidents, prime ministers, governors etc should be tested if they think they might have come in contact with anyone who tested positive. Do you know how chaotic Nigeria will be if President Buhari was to test positive and die from COVID-19? Now imagine the same thing happening to Trump the leader of the free world. It will be chaotic and disruptive. The stock market will crash even further, there will be destability, and that my friend is one of the reasons why people like El Rufai get tested, symptomatic or not. Moreover, how do you know he had no symptoms?

chloroquine, paracetamol and piriton tablets are the antidote for this corona virus. just like every other ailments like typhoid, malaria, jaundice and etc that earlier killed a lot of people, so also this corona virus. just take the normal dose, the person will get well. i am not afraid of it. taking of herbs made up of dongoyaro, pawpaw leave, mango leave and onion leave will flush the virus away. God has given the solution withing us, we should not panic because it is not a death sentence.

I don't know how many people walking the streets of Nigeria have symptoms. Stay focused. All I know is that OP did not have any symptom and wanted to get tested. Not gonna happen.

I had fever, sour and dry throat, chest pain and endless coughing but I didn't even bother to get tested because I know I will be dead before getting tested.

Well, all other symptoms are now gone beside the coughing which is mild.

Bollocks!!!!!! Germany alone does half a million COVID-19 tests weekly with a population of just above 80 million people, the story about testing kits bring limited us complete nonsense....how would Nigeria not have at least 50,000 test kits on standby?? Is it expensive? At least I know a ventilator cost more than $25,000, and Nigeria as a country don't got 1000 ventilators. Is this a country? Why are you defending mediocrity
God

You are a pathological liar. Germany is not testing asymptomatic individuals. God I love the internet!

Coronavirus: A Facebook User’s Experience Of Getting Tested In Abuja

ATTENTION: PRESIDENCY & FED. MINISTRY OF HEALTH

To tell you the truth, NCDC can't do anything for you because they are not ready.
All this PR they are doing they are assuming people will not try that's why.
On Wednesday (25/03/2020) I and a colleague of mine decided we want to be sure of our status before going into #selfisolation.

So we went through the following steps

1. We called the toll free line and after all the normal recorded stories, when we chose to speak to an agent they end the call.

2. We went to University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Gwagwalada, they told us they don't do testing there, that the hospital is only an isolation center. They refer us back to NCDC office in town, told us that's where testing lab is.

3. We drove to NCDC office at Jabi. There are two NCDC offices there in close proximity. The first office told us they don't do testing but they directed us to the second office saying that's where testing is handled.

4. The second office too absolved themselves of that responsibility and directed us to NCDC National Reference Laboratory, Gaduwa.

5. We visited the NCDC NRL. On getting there, the security at the gate informed us that a lot of people were there too earlier in the day and were turned away. That they don't do testing for individuals unless your state took your sample and submit to them.

6.They refer us to a circular posted at the gate and told us to contact the FCT Epidemiology team lead on COVID-19.

7. When I called him I introduced myself by name and then asked him if he's the FCT team lead on this issue. He answered yes. I then asked him how do I go about getting tested. He asked who are you? Who gave you my number? I told him I'm an Abuja resident and his number is on a circular at the NCDC office. He told us he doesn't know. He said we should go to NCDC. I told him but they referred us to you. He was silent. I then asked him to advise us. He told us to go to "National Health Disease Control" which doesn't exist.

I will send a copy of the circular to this forum.

Obviously they are doing selective testing which is dangerous.

It means a lot of people might have been infected already but for lack of testing they are moving about infecting others.

While the information from the official channels are saying people are not coming forth, the truth is that people are going but are been turned away.

And I know because I was turned away first hand.

It also tells you that either the NCDC are lying to us or they are not coordinated at all. How will you explain three branches of the office each denying responsibility and pointing us to the next instead of just explaining to us the laid down procedures by the NCDC

https://m.facebook.com/673827759324224/posts/3897292313644403/
that NCDC was established to syphon money, they are only interested in budget allocation, how many people die is not their concern. When this is over, you Will ear how many billions dollars went down

You are still economical with the truth. Tell us why we can't get tested as an individual when our Politicians and great personality are getting tested without experience the symptoms of Covid-19. It will not be an happy ending if testing is restricted to the rich and famous only.

The selective screening I refer to in this case means screening those that fall into a set criteria for the disease risk.
You need a checklist to enhance screening procedures, because it difficult and expensive to test an entire population.
