Some Nigerians working with Sunti Golden Sugar Estate Limited, located in Mokwa, a community in Niger state, just few hours away from Abuja, the nation’s capital city have cried out for rescue from forced casualistion and maltreatment in the hands of its high-handed foreign managers.
The concerned staff alleged that Nigerian employees of the company have been reduced to slaves, making life unbearable for them, hence their desperate for relief to them.
From written petitions addressed to the Chairman, Flour Mills of Nigeria Plc and and Manager, Human Resource, Sunti Golden Sugar Estate Ltd, and made available to newsmen, several complaints have been lodged to appropriate quarters, including the Chairman, Flour Mills of Nigeria Plc, Lagos, under which the Estate is a subsidiary.
They disclosed that, in order to continue to constantly intimidate, insult and harass the Nigerian workers, the foreigners at the helms of affairs changed the status of their permanent employment to casual engagement, which is renewable every six months, decrying that the new casualization status has made many of them to loose their employments, as every slightest perceived wrong doing attracts outright sacking.
One of the petitions read in part: “You will recall the several episodes of interference in patient management as well as the open confrontation on professionalism of medical team at the clinic by the General Manager’s wife.
“As much as possible, we have tried to comply with the needs/requests of the, at least within the belief that these requests are to improve efficiency in our operations and for the general benefits of all patients in the community.
“Following the last incident of the morning of January 30th, 2019, in which the wife of the General Manager came to the clinic, assembled all the clinic staff and uttered unprintable words against them.
The petition it continued: “Enormous pressure to breach the confidentiality of patient’s records in which case the GM is demanding for every patient’s medical details”, revealing that they swore to “Hippocratic Oath, to protect patients’ medical information.”
In another petition, written by the host community and addressed to the Chairman, Flour Mills Nigeria Ltd, Lagos, Mr. Du-Pisani, along with the firm’s community liason officer, simply referred to as Mr. Samuel, has been showing total disrespect to the community leaders.
It reads: “We the entire host communities has no any source of income for our livelihood because of the activities the company.
“The Company Liason Officer has not been having a good and friendly relationship with our communities as he is always against the welfare and social responsibilities of the company to our communities.
“The Chairman Sir, with these types of autocratic leadership adopted by company General Manager has led to termination of so many appointments and resignation of skilled, experienced and qualified personnel.
“It is on this note that we the entire host communities of Sunti Golden Sugar Estate Limited demand for Mr. Anio Du-Pisani as General Manager and Mr. Samuel who is Company Liason Officer removed for the peace and progress of the entire community of Sunti Golden Sugar Estate Limited.”
