Igbos Cannot Be Nigerian President Unless They Do This by Nobody: 1:26am On Apr 01, 2020
How possible is Igbo presidency in 2023? The bitter truth is that Buhari cannot give or even nominate an Igboman for president in 2023 or 2040 or anytime. The Igbos banking on Buhari are just confused or deluded. Who will he even nominate? On what ground will he nominate him? If Buhari cannot even trust an Igbo man as a member of the service chiefs, is it the presidency he will support? The same thing happened to Obasanjo who has shown more love to the Igbos than any other leader from the north or west. What stopped Obasanjo from picking an Igbo man as a president or vice? What was Obasanjo's fear? Can we turn that fear into our strength? Why was Obasanjo eager to go to go North and South-south?

Again, even a kid will tell you that election in Nigeria is a charade. Who becomes a president in Nigeria is incumbent on the stake his people take or the choice of the ruling party. So there's nothing like free and fair election in Nigeria. Going by the aforementioned indices, it's obvious Igbos are not ready for presidency. And with the way Nigeria is configured today, no tribe can win presidential election through free and fair election which Igbos pin their hope. Tinubu, Osibanjo or any northerner has a better chance of becoming a Nigerian president in 2023 than the Igbos.

Luckily, Igbos have the strongest stake in Nigeria but they're not using it to their political advantage. The north and the West seem to know how to deceive and derail the Igbos. Ohaneze is no doubt the most naive sociocultural group in Nigeria. The northern elders and politicians have never disowned their youths no matter the step they take to restore the glory of the north but Ohaneze and Igbo politicians appear to be a bunch of saboteurs ready to sacrifice their children to be called good Nigerians. Every Igbo politician is fighting for self-glory. Igbo is the only tribe others can easily read its mind. Take it or leave, Tinubu, Osibanjo etc have control over Afenifere and may use it sometimes against the Igbos. Over the years we have seen Afenifere come with a topic like: "Afenifere Hails Ohaneze for Disowning IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu on Secession of Igbos," and quite recently we heard: "Afenifere Backs Nnamdi Kanu on Biafra" etc. This is the politics of the West. Two statements, dangerously opposite from Afenifere. How many times has even Ohaneze mustered courage to say they support Nnamdi Kanu and how does Afenifere support IPOB or Kanu for Christ sake? Funningly enough, when Igbos youths really stand up for Biafra, they will keep mute but during election periods they will make Biafra agitation louder on Newspaper and social media than electoral campaigns. While creating this chaos in Igboland, they are supporting their own: Tinubu, Osibanjo etc. They have seen Biafra as a stumbling block to Igbo presidency and use it as a political tool. Also, the Igbos are always happy when the Yorubas reunite with their brothers in Kwara, Kogi or elsewhere but no Yoruba man goes to sleep the day Igbos and their brothers in the newfangled south-south have a one minute dinner together. The effort seemed to be directed at permanently dividing brothers and making Igbo irrelevant.

As for the north, the use of Federal might and top Igbo traditional chiefs is a common tradition. They divide Igbo land with appointments and juicy political positions. An Igbo man loyal to a top northerner mostly does the job of a saboteur telling his northern boss who does or says what about Biafra or secession. Some Igbos are mere spin doctors hired to write against their people. When you see a top northern chief or politician in Igbo land, just know he is on a "mission." All this leaves Igbo land badly divided and contribute to why Igbo presidency is a mirage.

The big question is how did the north regain power from Goodluck? Why did Obasanjo pick Goodluck? Clearly, Igbo is the most feared tribe because of the undying quest for Biafra. The sit-at-home order which many people complied with has made the northerners leery of any Igbo person. Another bigger fear is that other tribes will not stay in Nigeria once Igbos exit. This makes Biafra the northerners' bugbear. We saw how restive the north turned when Goodluck added Igbo names and made an Igbo man an army chief. Goodluck being successfully tagged "Nyamiri," the north was unease. Nigeria boiled to the top. The north deployed every means, I mean every means until Goodluck surrendered, saying his ambition is not worth the blood of any Nigerian. Also, the collective agitation by the South-south created serious attention and Obasanjo was compelled to give them a chance.

What then are the Igbos going to do?

Politics is a game. The higher, the tougher. It's not for weak-willed persons or divided people. Igbos should make up their minds to play it or accept their fate. Life is a risk and if you don't risk anything, you won't gain anything, you won't be Nigerian president. Since Igbo's stake is Biafra, it's impossible for Igbo to be President of Nigeria unless over 80% of the Igbos join Biafra! Mark my words, Biafra is the only answer to Igbo presidency! Every part of Igbo land should smell, resonate with Biafra. The Church, the streets, the homes, children, youths, old and everybody should talk Biafra. Include everybody in the agitation. It must be loud and consistent. The ruling class is not expected to support it but they must learn to keep quiet or pretend like the northern leaders did when Arewa youths gave Igbos quit notice. It's a win-win thing. If the world sees our seriousness, they will support our freedom and if Nigeria is afraid and ready for negotiations, the choice will be ours. We must take a decision, stick together to the course otherwise no Igbo man will be Nigerian president. If you doubt me, watch 2023 is around the corner. We have not staked anything to make Nigeria consider us for president or vice. It's not a party thing, it's our inability to organise our house. The best parties will come begging us to give them candidates. Presidency in Nigeria is not determined by a political party but by the political resolve of each tribe. The truth remains that since 1999, Igbos have not staked anything for us to be considered for presidency.

What exactly do you wish for?

Biafra or Nigerian presidency? I'm confused.

One thing I know for sure. Igbos don't know how to play the game of politics.

The fight for Biafra will not take any Igbo man to Aso Rock.

Play your politics right and you will occupy Aso Rock.

If Biafra is the reason why igbos are strangulated politically by North and SW conspiracy, why weren't they considered for the top job since 1999 when there was no agitation for Biafra, even when they made attempts to clinch it?

I agree with you that the only hope for the Igbo man is to collectively uphold and demand Biafra. That appears to be the only option left for them to chart their destiny by themselves since most Nigeria so called elites will choose rather for Nigeria to burn to ashes than any igbo man leading this country, even though he is capable of restoring her glory.

An Igbo, Edo, Igala or Nupe and indeed ANY Nigerian citizen can be President of Nigeria, may be not in 2023 but thereafter.

There is absolutely nothing magical about 2023.

What we need now is to

1) deepen our democracy by ensuring that votes count.

2) Work toward a decentralized Nigeria so that a region doesn't necessarily need the presidency to attain her full potentials.

3) Minimize the roles of tribes/religion in politics while emphasizing MERITS.

Nigerian establishment doesn't hate Igbos.

The reality is that no Igbo presidential candidate has ever contested the presidential election on the platform of a major political party.

Without clinching the presidential ticket of a major political party, it's very difficult to win the presidential election.

Had it been that the second republic wasn't truncated and let say the late Dr Alex Ekwueme won the presidential ticket of the defunct NPN in the 1987 presidential election, he could have won.

In the present dispensation, only the PDP or APC presidential ticket can take you to Aso-Rock. The Igbos need to get the ticket of any or both of these two political parties to win.

1) Your assumption is wrong and it akin to a candidate who never bother to write JAMB exams but keep saying the universities will never consider him for admission

2) Yorubas and Hausas are not the only voters in Nigeria. You need to campaign and make them see reasons to vote for you.

There are millions of Nupe, Igala, Ijaw, Ebira, Efik, Kanuri, Tiv, Idoma and Ibibio voters.

3) It's pure blackmail to say that Nigeria will not develop until an Igboman becomes a President.

Your first paragraph is most laughable and emanated from a deep seated entitlement mentality.

1) Mention the presidential election that an Igbo candidate contested and did everything needed to win?

2) Winning the presidential election is just like seeking for employment.

You need to have impressive resume, look for employment adverts, attend interviews and convince the interviewers on why they should hire you.

3) You can't sit down in your Papa's sitting room and be expecting Microsoft, Shell, Chevron or MTN to bring your employment letter to you.

It is the same for running and winning a presidential election.

Buhari consistently ran for the presidency for 12 years and only won at the fourth attempt.

Presidency in Nigeria is not determined by a political party but by the political resolve of each tribe. The truth remains that since 1999, Igbos have not staked anything for us to be considered for presidency.

This make Biafra the northerners' bugbear.

Learn to be civilised. This is not your village elders meeting.

This is www.nairaland.com and I will continue to post even if you disagree.

Even Seun can not tell anyone to shut up.

The truth is not always pleasant to the ears.

You always make stupid tribal comments on every thread. Jonathan killed zoning agreement. Even a dunce knows this. Stop writing nonsense here. This is not ipob forum where you lie and twist history.

Btw, which two elections did Igbo lose or rigged out? Another lie I guess.
