President Maada Bio announced that the index case is a 37 year old male who arrived in the country from France on an Air Brussels flight was immediately put into quarantine.

The man reportedly finished the requisite 14 days isolation at a hotel on Sunday and was collected by his wife yesterday. Apparently the subject’s wife, who is a medical doctor, noticed the signs and symptoms of Covid-19 and immediately drove her husband to the 34 Military Hospital where he tested positive for the virus. Emphasising that from now on “Every minute matters”, President Bio disclosed that “we have quickly isolated case number one. We have immediately and aggressively operationalised tracking and surveillance for all primary and secondary contact. The president also advised those that have direct contact with the infected person to stay isolate until the necessary step are carried out.

In attempt to take a precautionary measure, Schools, Colleges and Universities have all been ordered close as from today until further notice. Land, sea movement on the riverine areas have all been banned, as also gatherings of over 100 people. Hand washing and social distancing have also been encouraged.



CASE SUMMARY IN NIGERIA AS AT MARCH 1ST 2020

Nigeria implemented a total quarantine. The lockdown kicks in at 11pm local time (22:00 GMT) on Monday and will stay in place for at least two weeks, President Muhammadu Buhari announced on Sunday, a little over a month after Nigeria confirmed its first case.

Here is the recent report from Nigeria Centre for Disease Control ( NCDC )

• On the 31sth of March 2020, eight (cool new confirmed cases of COVID-19 recorded in Nigeria
• Till date, One hundred and fifty-one (151) cases have been confirmed, nine cases have been discharged and two deaths from COVID-19 recorded in Nigeria
• Of the eight(cool new cases reported on the 31st of March, three(3) are in Osun , three(3) are in FCT, one (1) in Lagos and one(1) in Ogun State.
• All new cases have mild to moderate symptoms and are currently receiving care.
