We are basically reacting from history and using the same preventive measures that was used for the Spanish flu.

Nobody has a cure for that flu after a 100 years and might for this one.

How does the pandemic end

in the summer of 1919, the flu pandemic came to an end, as those that were infected either died or developed immunity.

Almost 90 years later, in 2008, researchers announced they’d discovered what made the 1918 flu so deadly: A group of three genes enabled the virus to weaken a victim’s bronchial tubes and lungs and clear the way for bacterial pneumonia.

my question is. aren't isn't there no one that has immunity against covid 19.?

though we all watched the movie Contagious... think this is possible

There was no vaccine for the Spanish Flu. It ended after enough people got infected and developed immunity.

Wow. I wasn't expecting that response. That means this corona virus will run its full course until we develop immunity or develop vaccine, whichever comes first. In a year or two, perhaps

I don't like the options I'm seeing here cry

You know Northwestern Somalia lost 7% of its population during the Spanish flu outbreak, right? Then it was known as British Somaliland and it had a population of nothing less than 300,000. 7% of 300000 should come to 21,000.
Now, that is chicken feed when compared to Nigeria- then also a British colony- where nothing less than 500,000 died.

Nigeria had a population of less than 20 million at the time of the flu.

In Ethiopia, thousands died too. Even the great Ras Tafari Mekonnen [future Emperor Haile Selassie] wasn't all that lucky. He came down with the flu himself just like his country men.

wow thanks a lot for the enlightenment...
Over one hundred years ago, a world recovering from a global war that had killed some 20 million people suddenly had to contend with something even more deadly: a flu outbreak.

The pandemic, which became known as Spanish flu, is thought to have begun in cramped and crowded army training camps on the Western Front.

I read an old literature on this flu, how it killed lot of people in Nigeria. Then they taught it was a curse inflicted by an enemy clan, so they started sacrifices to God's for protection, everyone was dying. It was towards the end of the novel that they started that fluenza was killing them. I read that book at the literature section in a library at FCET Akoka. I can't remember the title.
So tragedic.

Over one hundred years ago, a world recovering from a global war that had killed some 20 million people suddenly had to contend with something even more deadly: a flu outbreak.

The pandemic, which became known as Spanish flu, is thought to have begun in cramped and crowded army training camps on the Western Front.

Between 1918 and 1919, the outbreak spread rapidly across the world, and killed 50 million and 100million people within 15 months.

The speed of the pandemic was shocking; the numbers of dead bodies overwhelmed hospitals and cemeteries.

Quarantine centers, emergency hospitals, public use of gauze masks, and awareness campaigns were all undertaken swiftly to halt the spread.

But as World War I was coming to a close, millions of soldiers were still traveling across the globe, aiding the spread of the disease.

While its exact origins are still debated, it’s understood that the “Spanish Flu” did not come from Spain.

Nice one Explorer.

I can only imagine Jehovah Witnesses back then crazily going from door to door giving out false prophecies with this happening back then. Only for them to be disappointed when the World moved on and Jehovah disappointed them severally.
