There is a global demand for ventilators at the moment, he doesn’t even need to sell to Nigeria. Countries all over the world would rush him if he can deliver.

But truth be told, Innoson cannot produce any ventilators anytime soon even if FG gives him N4b. It will take him nothing less than 3-6 months to come up with anything close to a ventilator. Trump had to activate the defense production act to force GM to start producing ventilators. Even at that, GM has made it clear it can only deliver about 4,000 ventilators by April ending even though Trump is requesting 40,000. That’s to tell you how complicated the process of producing ventilators is.

I saw a BBC clip this morning where a reporter was lamenting that a consortium of Mercedes and Mclaren could only produce 30 ventilators. Innoson is nowhere near all these companies in terms of anything. Again, Innoson imports 95% of his parts from China. All he does in Nigeria is assemble.

Some people cannot stomach the truth.

Facts only.

But my brothers will not understand or accept these facts. For them everything is only about victimization. It's always every other person against Igbos for them.

You are in no position to determine what he can and cannot do . The same innoson with very little capacity is the one GTB a whole corporate entity went into his account to steal funds from.

Even if he assembles parts from china, is the end product not a car?

The main point here is that government has to reach out to know what he needs to support in the production. Does he need to fly in more chinese partners? Does he need waivers to bring in parts?

Nigeria is so unstable, ventilators cost much and it's not something you jump into producing for government. They could end up taking it on credit and wont pay after the pandemic.

There is alot that goes into such and he knows why he is making himself available if the government needs assistance.

The UK government placed order for 10,000 ventilators from Dyson. They started to work on it after Boris Johnson called the owner of the company to request. Their major product is not ventilators, but they had to on request of the government. That's how things are done.

You dont sit in the comfort of your room producing nothing and determine what someone who started from scratch to build a multibillion naira business can and cannot do.

This is beyond you.

Did FG ask Dangote to refine some litres of fuel first before he got govt backing to build refinery? Govt should always support critical sectors, that's how countries grow not by begging.
After how many billions he spent drilling and searching for the oil for almost four years before he even found drop One.....let innoson give one prototype first before asking for 4billIon.

No serious businessman makes such huge investment for a demand that could be over in less than 4 months except the company wants to go into such production for a long term which is not the case we are having. You dont build refinery because NUPENG is on strike and fuel is scarce, that's what you are asking Innoson to do.

The demand for ventilators has a very short span and very unpredictable, only a guaranteed order can make any serious company make such a huge investment in it. That also explains why it's still scarce otherwise every Tom Dick and harry will divert to it in other countries.

GM can now produce because Trump has given an order. Why haven't Toyota and Honda started? It's simply because they haven't gotten a concrete order and Japan is not in dire need of it like Nigerian.

If no serious businessman will commit money to such an investment, why should FG be blackmailed into committing huge funds to such an adventure?

Innoson is a business man and he’s not in this to save lives but to make money. Resources at this moment are very scarce with huge competing needs so we can’t afford to start throwing money at a venture that may not be useful at the end of the day.

FG is not giving Bayero University and others that are currently working on the ventilators any money. Innoson should source for money as a businessman and produce the ventilators in record time if he can. The market is there already.

Personally, I have no doubt that he can produce it but it will take him nothing less than 6 months. By then, the ventilators would be very useless. He knows it and that’s why he’s trying to blackmail the government to provide the funds upfront.

Can you imagine ..for a commodity that has an abnormal demand curve. Even certain bullet proof car specs are made with order.

Nobody is blackmailing the govt, we are only shocked at their thoughtlessness being backed by sentimental folks. Even if it takes him 3months as you said, is there no advantage in producing these things at home and equipping our healthcare? Is it a crime to have better equipment for other treatments?

Your question is like asking, We ordered for military aircraft to fight Bokoharam and it will be delivered next year, what if we defeat BokoHaram next month will the aircraft become useless?

People in govt should think long term not always about South vs North.

When they are done. Even if they do, does the university have the capacity to produce on a large scale? Why isn't the UK and US depending on their universities to build ventilators at a time like this?

Why are they going to manufacturers with plants? Why aren't those companies in UK and US diving into production of ventilators to make money. Why are they waiting for the government of those countries to place orders before they start? We really deserve the leaders we get in this country. Our reasoning is no different from theirs.

Innoson can also be forward looking as a businessman. He should raise the needed money and produce the ventilators. I can assure you that so many governments would still be willing to buy them and equip their hospitals in case of future needs.

Let them design first.....production will be done as needed.....you can't start worrying about production when you haven't finished design.....I dont see production as a problem....there are many sites that Can be handled from lagos to abuja and every state inbetween
