Very painful. It’s almost 26 years ago and I still feel a level of pain and disappointment whenever I remember that day.

The only thing we should consider here is inflation. There was a time Ibadan, kano and kaduna had a higher pedigree and city value than Abuja and to an extent, Uyo. Today there is a huge gulf in the property cost difference between these cities, predominantly Abuja.......we should be looking at cost of fruits, foodstuffs and maybe popular musicians album cost and international beverages like coke. Land and houses have so many external factors that distorts their value........

Ultimately we are still talking about purchasing power, 100k dollars in 1994 gave you the purchasing power of about a million today regardless of geolocation. Whether it is properties, food items or services, yes inflation is a huge factor so are opportunity costs and the global market. The dollar is stong but it is no match for these factors which are constantly present in every country.

I do not like conspiracy theories but Westerhoff's replacement of injured Amunike with Thompson Oliha in the 57th minute has remained suspicious.

So also the targeted injuring of both Amunike and Amokachi. It was like get both out and you are safe.

Amokachi was considered our biggest danger considering his energetic displays against Greece and Bulgaria.

He lasted only 34 minutes on the pitch. That was planned work. They should also check the Mexican referee very well. Nobody got a red card for those injuries.

Giving Zola a red card was just a ruse. Maldini was last man and stopped Yekini illegally minutes before Zola fouled Eguavoen. Zola had been a fringe player at that world Cup. His sending off was a ruse. To douse suspicion.

We had chances in the last 15 minutes to equalise though. Although Rufai wasn't great at keeping out low balls. We probably would have lost a penalty shout out.

Years after that, the widespread corruption in the Italian game was laid bare. Even AC Milan was seriously punished for it.

My consolation was seeing Baggio's penalty fly into the crowd. I celebrated Brazil victory like Nigeria won it. That final was meant to be Nigeria v. Brazil like the great Pele had predicted.

I never got over the defeat we suffered. It was just such a painful experience for me. Na dat match make me from that tender age of 11 then, lost interest in football.

The most painful was the equalizer goal at a 5 to 6 minute till final whistle.
Still the best super Eagles squad ever.

So many more examples, think inflation, compund interest and opportunity cost. Another scenario, use that 100,000 to buy shares of Apple in 1994, today it would be worth well over 1 million dollars. There are plenty more examples but you get the gist.

Investment valuation is not the same as money or currency valuation vis a vis time.
Your father may have add value to the house. The overall economy may have overvalued real estate. Apple add value to the company every year. What if you have bought ken lay Enron shares of $100000 when the company was ridding, today the shares will be worthless.
