History of this disease
Lyme disease was first discovered in the town of Old Lyme, Connecticut, in 1975. It’s the most common tick-borne illness in the U.S. and Europe. Humans are infected with this B. burgdorferi when bitten by an infected black-legged or deer tick. The insect, a tick is usually being infected after feeding on infected birds, deer, or mice.

An individual can get Borrelia burgdorferi after being bitten by an infected deer or black-legged tick.
