China has cost the world billions of Economic damages excluding thousands of human lives lost to this pandemic. No doubt the international community would hold China responsible at some point when the pandemic is put under control. But does the present Nigerian government has the will, competence and diplomatic clout to kick start this process?

Nah, not with the heavy reliance Nigeria is having on China these days

China will desperately need allies -- any allies it could get -- when the global hit would be turned on them after this pandemic.

If we have a good government, they should capitalise on it and demand China forgives some debts due to the callous way they misled the world about COVID-19 and the resulting catastrophe it cost.

With what leverage?
You can't have business conversations without leverage.
The boldened isn't leverage.

No one is talking about "business". It about taking responsibility. You perhaps missed the part where I said China Would come under international pressure. If Nigeria has the "diplomatic clout" it can work through the regional (Ecowas) and continental (AU) bodies to press for such demands.

Lol if you don't think business is involved in these talks you are suggesting, you are being naive.

Nigeria has neither the leverage nor the clout to pull any of all that.
Even if one tries to appeal to altruism as you've mentioned, the various global unions know that any money that enters Nigeria is not going to the good of the people, but will be pocketed by a select few. It is such a dark reputation with Nigeria that before a certain western country released a previous president's stolen loot they had to release it to Nigeria only on the monitored condition that it will not be stolen again. How embarrassing. grin

The only way Nigeria can convince anyone to do anything for it is by going about it on the platform of business leverage...of which Nigeria has none.
The 2 simple arguments china will make are:
- We are not responsible for an act of god.
- Your country was a shit-hole before and there is no evidence that suggests the epidemic changed much. In buttered words of-course. grin

After defeating your altruistic arguments, they will switch to business mode and punish the country based on the leverage they have over the country due to various thieving leaders who have been selling the country to china for more money to loot.

Y'all should just sit down and be humble.
You no get teeth for that fight.
Blame the leaders you keep voting for for selling all your teeth and sending all the money to their Swiss bank accounts. cheesy

I believe you suffer from hopelessness and inferiority complex not to mention your penchant for weak populations.

If my memory serves me well, you're one of those males whose wings have been battered by the unrelenting wave of feminism and you're here from the same broken spirit preaching from your quarter of doom.

You're completely naive in politics hence you don't know Africa is an important destination for Chinese businesses, and the only continent it has a near-nonrivalry business-wise. And when China does come under international pressure and countries from the West start pulling out like Japan is already doing, China would need Africa to maintain the status quo, and that would be a good time for Nigeria in partnership with other African countries to start giving China some conditions.

Your penchant for foolish arguments clocks faster than your capacity for rational reasoning.
