Which of these two looks developed? Consider density, real estate, City plan, Road network, economic activity and variety of economic activities?

Outside the physically and economically non functional Smelly cocoa house, that has been a den of rats, and it malls, what makes Ibadan a developed city?

Is it the size, Age, standard of living, economic opportunities, institutions, roads or what?

You will agree with me that everybody wants to live in an environment that is friendly, neat and conducive. But the reverse is the case as we see some states in Nigeria that are filled with dirt and pollution. You may begin to ask, but Nigeria engages in monthly sanitation! Yes, Nigeria engages in sanitation but it seems that some of these cities in Nigeria cannot fully be sanitized of their specks of dirt and pollution. We have taken our time to bring to you the list of the top 10 dirtiest states in Nigeria. If you have not read the list of the top 20 dirtiest cities in Africa, kindly do so by clicking on this link top 20 dirtiest cities in Africa.

1. Abia State On a periodic basis, the World Health Organization (WHO) carry out research to determine the extent of pollution across the globe. One of such activities done in 2011-2015 indicated that Abia State in Nigeria is one of the most polluted places in the world. According to sunnewsonline, two towns in Abia state- Umuahia and Aba- got into the top 20 dirtiest places on the planet.

2. Anambra State This place in Nigeria is also highly polluted and littered. If you visit some of the local towns, for example, Nnewi, Onitsha or Nkpor, you will be shocked. Just walk around and look by your sides. You will probably think that local citizens are extremely lazy because they cannot carry a single candy wrap in their pocket until finding a trash bin. All used wrappers, packages, and plastic bottles seem to end up right under the person’s feet as he or she strolls along the streets of Anambra State. According to CNN report, Onitsha was the world’s most air-polluted city in 2016.

3. Lagos State Lagos state, no doubt is one of the most populated cities in Nigeria. it is a well-developed city but happens to be among the list of the top 10 dirtiest cities in Nigeria.

4. Kano State Kano is another large city in the North-Western part of Nigeria. Despite the booming economy in Kano State, we still see it as one among the top 10 dirtiest cities in Nigeria. Kano residents suffer from waste, garbage in the streets and dirt. While this place is loved by tourists and surrounding villages are welcoming and friendly, the sanitation here is poor.

5. Kaduna State Kaduna, a state in the North-Western part of Nigeria suffers from litter, dirt, and air pollution. The city was featured in the report by the World Health Organization in 2016 as one of the most polluted areas in the world with a lot of smog, water pollution, and rubbish, according to thisdaylive.

6. Osun State We see that the sanitation law exists in Osun state, but the residents in this city do not adhere to these laws on sanitation which makes the city very dirty and filled with pollution. According to ‘Estimation of Organic Pollution of Odo Oba River’ document, this river is heavily polluted with market waste.

7. Ogun State Garbage and dirt which ought to be disposed of properly are not done here in the city of Ogun. Residents lack a good waste management system which brings it among the list of the top 10 dirtiest cities in Nigeria.

8. Ekiti State A survey organized by CLTS organization (Community-Led Total Sanitation) named Ekiti State as one of the dirtiest cities in Nigeria. HOW? According to pulse.ng, not just nearly half of the residents are more than likely to cause harm, but many locals can openly defecate right in the streets! A visit to this city will tell you more.

9. Benue State Benue, a state located in the North Central part of Nigeria does not look clean and nice. Many residents in Benue State are used to dumping their waste right alongside the roads, near uncompleted buildings and in drainages and these reasons bring it as one among the list of the top 10 dirtiest cities in Africa.

10. Oyo State The Oba River in Osun state goes through to Oyo, a state in South-West of Nigeria and we have noted how polluted this River is.

You can see how many dirtiest states are there in our country. We have seen the list of the top 10 dirtiest states in Nigeria. We are not happy writing out this list, but we are advised to keep our cities clean and safe for everyone especially our children who are more likely to be affected by one disease or the other that comes with pollution. Citizens are advised to take monthly sanitation serious and proper waste management should be adopted. We will all be happy and disease-free when we have a clean city.

Bhuhahahaha!

But unfortunately, Aba, Onitsha and Enugu don't have such infrastructures. grin

Show me. grin

Imagine Dem wan compare Enugu to Ibadan grin

'developed' part of Enugu consists of no more than two local governments, quote me anywhere. Outside that the rest of the entire state, including Nsukka, are glorified villages. It's an abomination to compare Enugu to Ibadan, on what basis please?? Ibadan has 4 bad-ass malls with Cinema plexes (Enugu has just the polo mall with one cinema which it hosts, even the Polo mall sef na Yoruba man get am cheesy grin), a world class resort (Agodi Gardens), Zoo, a CBD, Industries, you name it.

Cocoa house is the H/Q office of Odua investment limited and other big companies. grin

Ibadan has more than 41 institutions, more paved roads than Aba, Onitsha and Owerri, and the standard of living is far better than any city in Nigeria.

criteria of a developed city is economic activity and infrastructure. Kigali is regarded as one of the neatest city in Africa but it’s not regarded as the most developed city in Africa. In fact New York a huge city full of development and financial district is overcrowded and polluted.

cool.... I got what you mean. for instance because uyo Is neat doesn't make it more developed than onitsha or Lagos, Ibadan etc

no city in Nigeria is economically developed and actually neat at the same time. I would say Lagos
