Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has announced the indefinite closure of a private hospital where the two index cases of the coronavirus in the state were receiving medical attention before their referral to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Umuahia.

Ikpeazu, in a media briefing in Umuahia, the state capital, added that all the medical staffers and patients on admission at the yet-to-be-named private in the hospital would remain quarantined until the result of their samples returns back from the NCDC centre.

ABN TV reports the state recorded two index cases of COVID-19 on Monday 20th April 2020, which sent jitters to many residents.

The Governor gave the ages of the two index cases as70 and 72, adding they had underlying medical ailment ranging from “High blood pressure, diabetes, stroke, and heart failure”.

He pointed out that the state has started massive contact tracing of all persons, who had contact with the index cases in Ikwuano, Ukwa West, and Umuahia North Local Government Areas of the state.

Ikpeazu insisted that the sit-at-home order and border closure in the state remains to bind, adding that the state would treat anybody flouting the order as sabotage, adding that mobile courts would be set to bring offenders to book.

According to him: “The two index cases has made it clear that COVID-19 is real and we had provided two isolation centres in Aba and Umuahia with the capacity taking about 50 patients with ventilators and oxygen to care for COVID-19 patients before now.

“We are also lucky that the Federal Medical Centre in Umuahia has an additional isolation centre to care for patients of COVID-19 pandemic.

“These two index cases have placed an additional burden on us to enforce all the Nigeria centre for disease control guidelines to prevent the spread of Coronavirus.

Close it well.

Evening all, any amount just to feed this lockdown period is all I need. Do well to drop any amount for me. Nothing is too small.

With all the sensitization and deaths all over the place, why will a doctor be treating a patient suspected to have corona virus. Why endanger the lives of his staff and others in the hospital, are they not aware of the symptoms and how highly infectious the virus is

“These two index cases have placed an additional burden on us to enforce all the Nigeria centre for disease control guidelines to prevent the spread of Coronavirus."

BTW, what does the governor mean by the above statement. So to provide security for the lives of the people of your state where he campaigned endlessly and rigged elections to get to power is now a burden. embarassed

Why would a private hospital risk the life of their staff and loved ones? Thought the NMA decision was that no private hospital should treat COVID19 cases.

The lockdown in umuahia is just a way for the NPF to enrich themselves
By 9am they'd block the road with tyres and wood stopping every car and collecting tips
By 1600 hrs they'd close and normal day activities will be carried out

*Drive with escort and no NPF will stop the vehicle
*if you got somewhere to be,you can run your stuff within 5am to 9am before the closure

Shame undecided
Spit angry

Can I tell you something?
The Abians don’t trust the governor. We won’t be surprised if this is a lie to attract donations.

But if it is true, quick recovery to the sick.
May God heal our land.

Lol.. Some of these private Hospitals owners will see this as a means to make money. Dem think say Coronavirus patients are like Malaria or typhoid patients wey dem go place under admission and given drips? At the end of the day, they'll only end up making more people dead and they also stand risks of getting infected as well.

That's why there are Isolation centres created for this purpose specifically. Just that the governors needs to make sure these centers are accessible to almost every part of their states.
