Need to assess the lockdown in Lagos, to avoid economic depression. by dederocs(m): 8:31am On Apr 25, 2020
Let us readjust this lockdown in Lagos state, like Soludo rightfully said, we can not afford this lockdown, let us be creative and stop copying America that paid each citizen about 400k to stay inside, yet they are protesting there...let people move in private cars, bicycles and bikes...regulate markets, ensure people wear face masks and use sanitizers before entering markets, shops banks etc, ban danfo and molue, the state can use this to introduce a well regulated transport system, well run and maintained, that can be regulated to adhere to social distancing and wearing of masks by passengers...Germany, and some other rich nations are opening up gradually, let us not create a catastrophic problem because of Covid hysteria...People die everyday of different causes, lets be open minded about this...there are over 90million poor Nigerians, that number will rise if lockdown continues.
Social distancing, wearing face masks and use of sanitizers is key, while still banning crowd gathering, we will beat this, but not by lockdown, an extended lockdown will cause unforseen problems in a nation filled with poor people like Nigeria, even the government will go broke quickly, lots of companies will sack.workers because of lack or no revenue, lots of people will die off depression, anxiety and uncertainty...if people can not eat well, health complications arise, not to talk of rise in criminality, most youths might be enticed to go into stealing, robbery and joining bad gangs cos of hunger...lets think broadly and see the damage we will cause our society.

Only about 4% of infected people die, most recover...so the talk of bodies everywhere is a figment of imagination, and some immune systems resist it.

Those that want to stay home can stay, let those of us that wants to work and earn do, albeait safely...Ghana that ended their lockdown are not mad, if the economy collapse, it will be a disaster for us all, our government is already borrowing up and down, its a trap.

Note: am.emphasizing on Lagos, being the economic nerve of Nigeria, all other states can do as they like.

The safest way to reopen the economy is to continue the lockdown until the curve is flattened. If the economy is reopened and there is a second wave of infections, the economy will suffer even more. Why don’t you wait and see what happens to Ghana and other countries reopening before praising. Also read about the Spanish Flu of 1918 and how hurriedly lifted quarantines worsened the situation.

The safest way to open the economy is to Enforce wearing of face mask. I used the word Enforce because not everyone will comply.

The Czechs have tried it and it's working for them. It's business as usual over there.

Cross River State has not reported any case of Covid19 despite it being close to Cameroon. A friend on Facebook told me If you don't wear a face mask 30k if you are a driver of a taxi and your passengers do not wear 300k you don't want to offend law enforcement

Don't wait for indegenous tailors to sew 1 million mask before you enforce wearing of face mask because you want to cash out of the Covid 19 pandemic (Oyo state).

what about adopting safety measures and those that want to stay indoors stay...are you not concerned about other stuff i mentioned...remember Corona is not the only cause of death...the vaccine is available, so it will not be like the Spanish whatever...what am saying is, we might not recover from the economic blow in years if the lockdown is extended, or you think other nations calling it off are dumb...those that want to stay at home can stay.
Corona is overhyped, what you do not know is that, its not everyone that can be infected due to immune system differences, sunlight is also bad for it, and if we all adopt face masks, and sanitizers usage it wont spread

Safety measures in Nigeria? We both know that won’t work. The evidence is there.

Don’t compare Corona outbreak in Nigeria with developed countries. We don’t even have healthcare infrastructure. We would get it much worse if care is not taken. Bodies will liter the streets.

this is what the media want you to believe, wearing of face masks is better than staying home...do you really care if others die ...if they die due to negligence its on them...economy affects us all...this is hypocrisy, they dont care if we live or die...dying from hunger is worst death.

mind you, am talking of Lagos state.

Face masks help, yes. But they’re not a total solution. Given the number of uneducated people in Nigeria, going that route without a restriction in movement would be a disaster. I hope you’re aware that the number of infected people in Nigeria is much higher than what we read here or see on TV, because we’re not testing enough. This virus is no joke...ask the black community in the US after joking that it doesn’t affect black people. Mind you that’s a country with a proper healthcare system. Here you’ll go to a hospital and meet no doctor. Nigeria cannot afford to be sloppy in handling COVID-19.

my brother don't mind that ignorant scaremongerer. By the way, your suggestion is the way to go. 19 has come to stay...life should go on.

As it stands now, Viro scientists is trying to decode the genome sequence of 19...All viruses mutate constantly, many of the mutations are due to climatic conditions

Humans have to build a level of immunity just like we did when mosquito's carrying malaria and mutate entirely in humans.

Lets stop hypocrisy, no one cares if another dies, protect yourself, stay home, same Nigerians are stealing and diverting palliatives...anyone dumb enough to risk his life its on them, people die everyday in Nigeria normally, lets stop pretending like we like each other...government job is enlightenment, we can not stop everyone from doing what they like, but we can save the economy, the nation.

people are quite dumb, so scared they can not use their common sense, with time our immune will be strong enough to ward it off...Covid is not a death sentence, only 4% die...lets not destroy 50% of our population cos of a virus that kills only 4% of those infected.
people are really dumb and gullible.

You still don’t see the point. If there’s a second wave of infections - which will surely be bigger, there will be no economy to speak of.

Many people with this kind of mentality are now unfortunately dead - from COVID-19. Keep blabbing rubbish. You’re not even aware that many people who recover from COVID-19 now have damaged lungs or livers. You’re proffering foreign solutions to a Nigerian problem. Knowing fully well that Nigeria is a unique country. Keep deceiving yourself.

Do you know that it take months to conclude the testing if not even years,I want the lockdown to end but truth is that we are not ready for it yet.A thread was created here on nairaland about ebonyi state governor ordering his state task force to flog anyone without fall mask but many people here on nairaland insulted the governor some were calling him names for ordering that so you see we are not ready for the lockdown to be lifted without enforcing it in a hard way

Oga you are talking trash, people give birth and die everyday...how many people have died so far of Covid, how many people die yearly of malaria, over 300k...do the maths...not everyone it affects dies, only 4%, El Rufai, Boris, and so many survive, only 4% of those affected have died...only 30 people have died, in a nation of 200mil,do you know how many people bandits kill each week?
do you know how many people die every week normally...what is your fear?

So you want the economy to be locked down perpetually?

Do you know how many people will loose their jobs?

Talk with facts and figures, as it concerns Nigeria, again am speaking for Lagos....do you live in Lagos...are you being fed and kept?

So your plan is to fight a war of attrition. Everyone knows a war attrition should only be a last resort. At this point in time, your argument holds no water. We should stay locked down, and we will stay locked down. That’s the reality.

my sister Generally, vaccines take several months to pass different stages of testing, and composes some phases to assess their safety, their efficacy and finally their durability over a defined period of time.

And if there is any vaccines available for consumption now at the short timeline then the vaccine seems dubious to me,

All I can say is 19 is here with us...we humans can develop immunity to fight it.
