From Bisi Oladele, Southwest Bureau Chief

The new Postmaster General of the Federation, Dr. Bayo Adewusi, has said Nigerian Post Office (NIPOST) bank will soon be established.

Adewusi disclosed this while featuring on a call-in political programme, ‘Southwest Political Circuit’, on Ibadan-based Fresh F. M. radio at the weekend.

Adewusi, who was appointed as the chief executive officer of NIPOST three months ago, said the organisation is in the process of being unbundled, adding that three companies have been registered to carry out specific services under NIPOST mandate. The companies include transport and logistics, property development and banking.

According to him, the bank, which will be a bridge between commercial and micro finance bank, will operate at NIPOST branches and take banking services to the doorsteps of the masses. It will also support businesses at local levels across Nigeria.

He said the process of establishing the bank had begun, noting that it will progress as soon as COVID-19 lockdown is over.

He said NIPOST bank will promote financial inclusion as it will provide banking services in several areas which existing banks do not cover.

Do we really need it?
I don’t think so.

Nipost should face their transport and logistics.
They haven’t yet satisfactorily carry out the function they are meant for, now dabbling into another responsibility almost alien to it

That's cool and all but I'd like government to start mailing documents. There's no reason they cant deliver passports, driver's license, PVC etc. It's just weird NIPOST jumped into banking business but ignores this.

An organisation that is not efficient at posting mails can not be efficient at posting my money...

I cannot entrust my money in their hands. Very incompetent lots. Ordinary letter from Ghana, I am still to get it, something sent in 2007.

Very good initiative.

Do this kinda initiative survive in Nigeria?

Hope they don't play politics with it and kill it naturally.

Exactly this should be the first common sense step. Unfortunately common sense is not too common. The foolish agencies will be telling people to come collect their stuff like NIPOST doesn't exist. There's million of PVC's and thousands of drivers licenses uncollected.
