Lets digress a bit from the covid-19 drama and go a bit into history. How many of us know who the two greatest criminals were in the hstory of Nigeria. These criminals that even wreak fear in the police force at the time they operated, these criminals terrorised the Nation like no other criminals have ever done even to this day. It is important we appreciate the men and women of the Nigerian Police force, at every turn they also prove themselves very efficient in apprehending notorious and dare devil criminals.

Lets look briefly at who these two notorious criminals were,

1: Lawrence Anini:

In old Bendel state which is currently known as Edo state a dare devil criminal was born, the Criminal who was also known as the "Law" was so dreaded that his matter used to part of the Military council meeting during the Military Administration of Ibrahim Babangida.

Anini was born in a village about 30 kilometres (20 miles) from Benin City in present-day Edo State. He moved to Benin at an early age where he learned how to drive and became a skilled taxi driver, later he became known in Benin motor parks as a man who could control the varied competing interests among motor park touts and operators, then he dived into the criminal business in the city and soon became a driver and transporter for gangs, criminal godfathers and thieves. Later on, he decided to create his own gang which include, Monday Osunbor, Ofege, and others. They initially started out as car hijackers, bus robbers, and bank thieves, then he extended his criminal acts to other towns and cities in the far north and east of Benin.

The complicity of the police is believed to have triggered Anini's reign of terror in 1986. In early 1986, two members of his gang called Kingsley alias Baba K and Kele were tried and prosecuted against an earlier under-the-table bribe induced agreement with the police to destroy evidence against the gang members. That incident plus Anini's view of police betrayal is believed to have spurred retaliatory actions by Anini. In August 1986, a fatal bank robbery linked to Anini was reported in which a police officer and a child were killed, In that same month two officers on duty were shot at a barricade while trying to stop Anini's car. On 6th September 1986, the Anini gang snatched a Peugeot 504 car from Albert Otoe, the driver of an Assistant Inspector General of Police, Christopher Omeben. In snatching the car, they killed the driver and went to hide his corpse somewhere, the skeletal remains of that driver was found 16 kilometers away from Benin, along the Benin-Agbor highway. Thus during a span of three months, he was known to have killed 9 police officers. Anini was once believed to be a spirit in possession of magical powers it was also rumourd that he could teleport at will. On December 3, 1986, he was caught at a house in Benin City between 2nd and 3rd East Circular Road in the company of a girlfriend, it was also later found out that he was betrayed by his girlfriend . He was shot in the leg, transferred to a military hospital several days after he was shot in the leg were one of his legs was amputated. The country's military leader, Ibrahim Babangida, demanded a speedy trial. Anini was convicted of most of his charges and was executed on March 29, 1987.

2: Dr Oyenusi:

Dr Oyenusi who was not a proffessional doctor but gave himself that title for the fun of it according to a confession he made when he was finally arrested, was a notorious criminal who terrorised the country in the seventies(70s). His modus operandi was carjackings, bank robberies and heists committed during hold-ups.

Before a tale of his daring exploits has died down, another one will spring up. Oyenusi was no ordinary pilferer, he was downright wicked and had all the self-confidence in the world to go with it. He was said to be quite romantic and chivalrous. There was a story of how he snatched his first car on Herbert Macaulay Road in Yaba, Lagos. Why? His girlfriend was broke. He eventually sold the car for N400 but the sad part was that in the process of stealing the car, the poor owner was shot dead. He actually snatched the first car he saw on the road. Such was the ferocious nature of his audacity.

Oyenusi’s arrogance was also legendary. In 1970, he was arrested and handcuffed by a police officer. As the policeman was ordering him around, Oyenusi blasted him and thundered:

‘People like you don’t talk to me like that when I am armed. I gun them down.’

By the 1970s this self acclaimed doctor of Crime was the first celebrated criminal. He is said to be the father of conventional crime as it is known today. he was also known for his boastful remarks "the bullet has no power".

In March 1971 after a robbery were items valued at $28,000.00 were stolen dr Oyenusi was finally arrested by the Nigerian Police force. His execution was carefully prepared by the police at bar beached. That was how much of a notorious criminal this guy was. Over thity thousand Nigerians (30,000) at the time came to watch the execution, not out of solidarity but to jubilate that the death of a mad criminal was inevitable. He was said to have smiled to his execution saying he is dying for something that he did.

So for those who never knew this part of Nigeria history there you have it, the two most Notorious criminals in Nigeria that ever lived.

Nnamdi Kaun will go down in history of Nigeria as the greatest 419 ever. He deceived the whole region to prosperity and they can still die for him without asking questions.

i hate tribalism. Say no to tribalism and shun it. Call a spade a spade and call a thief a thief irrespect where they came from. For example. Evans is know to be the father of kidnappers in Nigeria. Clifford Oji is know to be the father of canibalism in Nigeria.

It will be better to add it to your story to make it a complete story.
