Every year, most people quit farming because it wasn't profitable. Some farmers lamented that after spending so much on fertilizer, labour and other inputs yet they harvest low or their crops are attacked by pests and diseases. This problem has made it difficult for farmers to repay loans while others don't want to farm this season because of the fear of low returns. Crop farming is very profitable and it has to be taken serious just like other business, what you give to your farm land will determine what you get at end of every farming season.

Here are some factors that are responsible for failure in crop farming and how to avoid it .

Poor seeds selection

Poor seed varieties contain borne diseases that lead to poor germination and reduced yield during harvest. Most of the poor seed variety are prone to be affected by pest and diseases. It is recommendable to get good quality seeds and also check the expiry date of the seeds.

Watering of Plant

Excess or insufficient watering of plant can affect the productivity of crops.
Soil that is constantly wet won’t have enough air outlet and plants will not be able to breathe by taking up oxygen with their roots. When this occurs, your crops will wilt, it can also lead to the tips of the leaves to become brown, yellow, wilt and fall. Plants can also become stressed by poor watering.

Weed & Pest Control

One of the greatest challenges farmers face is weed & pest management. Weed interference is one of the most limiting factors which decrease crop yields. Weed can decrease crop yield by competing with crops for light, water and nutrients.

Weed can be controlled by planting of cover crops, reduce tillage, mulching which naturally break the cycle of soil-borne diseases, and some soil-dwelling insects, while increasing the soil’s organic matter. Planting similar crops on field can substantially increase pests and should be avoided. Growing different crops in rotation also helps
reduce the build-up of pests.

Use Of Poor Fertilizer

Many times during seminars, workshops, and online, farmers always ask which type of fertilizer is the best to get maximum yield from rice, maize, soya bean, cucumber, cassava, etc.

It is a very important question to ask and the answer to this is crucial for running a successful farming business.

Before answering this question, let's remind ourselves that soil hardly have enough nutrients available for crops to reach their maximum yield, therefore, farmers need to apply a fertilizer that is rich in nutrients to enhance soil fertility to increase the yields of crops. This fertilizer must be easy to apply, save time, money, produce healthy crops and also achieve the aim of improving soil fertility without causing damage to the environment.

The use of organic fertilizer has been proven to be cost-effective in yielding more crop in less time and maintaining the soil nutrient in a very long time compare to Inorganic fertilizers.

Firstly, to understand what organic fertilizer does is this; organic fertilizer increases the number of microbes in the soil which improves the structure of the soil, the microbes in the soil then feed the soil with the nutrient necessary for growth.
The microbes retain nutrients for later release and use by crops compare to inorganic fertilizers that washes away especially through leaching.

Some of the greatest advantages most farmers are benefiting by using organic fertilizer is that damage of over-fertilizing (usually common with inorganic fertilizers) to crops is avoided as the nutrients are released slowly and they are available in a longer period for the growth of crops.

Farmers are now finding it profitable to be using organic fertilizer because it helps to improve and retain nutrient in the soil even after the crops have taken the nutrients for use compare to inorganic fertilizers whereby nutrient are easily lost through leaching and other challenges they face with like inorganic fertilizer like changes in the pH of the soil, destruction of soil microbes which affect soil fertility and also increase crop susceptibility to pest attack. Some times wrong fertilizers usage can promote more leaves instead of fruits especially applying too much nitrogen fertilizer.

Farmers are becoming smarter with the right choice of fertilizer because what goes in the soil determines what comes out in the soil and if they don't harvest bountifully to cover their input cost then no profit to be made which is bad for business.

With a quality variety of seeds, good watering of crops, good control of pests and diseases and the usage of organic fertilizer you can be highly successful in crop farming.

So why waiting, when you can increase your yield at a low cost by using Agric - Zyme 3X organic fertilizer
