Leading Satellite cable TV service provider, DSTV, operated by Multichoice has increased the subscription rate of it Packages, Bouquets, and Products – which will start June 1, 2020.
The increase rate which will commence from June, 2020, and it's as a result of the 7.5% VAT (Value Added Tax) by the Nigerian Government. The price hike will affect Nigerians alone, for now.

Below is the New DSTV rates effective from June 1st, 2020:
1. DSTV Access: ₦2,000 to ₦2,225
2. DSTV Yanga: ₦2,500 to ₦2,565
3. DSTV Family: ₦4,000 to ₦4,300
4. DSTV Confam: ₦4,500 to ₦4,615
5. DSTV Compact: ₦6,800 to ₦6,975
6. DSTV Compact +: ₦10,650 to ₦10,925
7. DSTV Premium: ₦15,800 to ₦16,200

Others:
8. DSTV Padi: ₦1,800 to ₦1,850
9. DSTV Max: ₦3,200 to ₦3,280
10. DSTV Jolli: ₦2,400 to ₦2,460
11. DSTV Jinja: ₦1,600 to ₦1,640
12. DSTV Lite ₦400 to ₦410
13. DSTV Box Office: ₦400 to ₦410
14. French Touch Add-on: ₦1,470 to ₦1,510
15. French Plus Add-on: ₦6,360 to ₦6,520
16. Indian Add-on: ₦5,400 to ₦5,540
17. Premium + Asia: ₦17,700 to ₦18,150
18. Premium + French: ₦22,200 to ₦22,750.

I hope this is a temporary change influenced by the Coronavirus. With the way the company updates the Catch-Up function frequently I believe employing more hands to archive their media is the cause. I foresee the prices coming back down and maybe lower when global lockdowns ease.

I’ve said it times without number that the VAT increase done earlier this year is going to affect everything. The increase in DSTV Packages prices just seem to be the beginning. Other big companies may do likewise.
