Collecting Money On The Streets - Louis Theroux: Law And Disorder In Lagos

BBC Louis Theroux in this gain an insight into the arbitrary and unofficial taxes extorted from local businesses and commercial drivers in Oshodi.

The current State Chairman of the NURTW, Musiliu Akinsanya (MC OLUOMO), who has the backing of the State government uses proxies to collect all sort of levies from Motorist and even up to the ordinary petty traders and hawkers on the street.

A former trusted aide of MC OLUOMO, Mamok, (the guy in the Arsenal shirt), who has been killed in October 2015 by assailants took Louis round the ever busy Oshodi to reveal how the extortion works and why the people dare speak out with the State government and the Police looking the other way.

According to Late Mamok, the Police or any agent of the state dare not arrest the boys because they all have MC OLUOMO backing.

Louis in company with Mamok also visited MC OLUOMO deputy, Koko Zaria on their activities in the area.

Just like we have it in Oshodi, another set of gang hold sway in Lagos Island, led by a Lady called Tawa, a small time gang boss who is able to patrol her turf with both fear and respect.

It is obvious that progressive Lagos is being held in the Jugular by different warloads, who obviously have political connections and state backing.

The only reason these Agbero seems powerful and invincible is because of the political backing and patronage they enjoy.

To put an end to the menace just require a single order from the Governors and they'll be reigned in

This Mamok of a guy was well educated going by his English. He must have been wasted for granting this interview. MC is Tinubu man, they are the people that mobilize boys for ballot box snatching. This is nigeria. people who ought to be in prison are the ones in palaces making laws. Of course they are the reason the transport fares are high. The second to MC can't even speak English.

Fmr. Governor of Lagos, Bola Tinubu reinstated the Union, after they were ban under the Military administration of Col. Buba Marwa

They have since been turned to political tools by the ruling class in the state. Below is when Bola Tinubu met with the Union leaders prior to 2019 General election.

The reason why Nigeria is a jungle. Nobody in the corridor of power really cares about keeping it a sane country. These boys are in league with top politicians and therefore unstoppable.

Lagos mafia. These people are brutal and well organized.

Their law of omerta seems more secretive than the italians.
