Distressed 3-Storey Building At No 7, Sule Close, Apapa / Iganmu: LASEMA Raises by Perfecttouchade: 1:02pm On May 08, 2020
Lagos State Emergency Management Agency LASEMA, Friday, raised the alarm, over a distressed building in the state.

LASEMA Director-General Oluwafemi Oke Osanyintolu said the building situated at No 7, Sule Close, Apapa/ Iganmu Local Council Development Area of the state, was physically unfit when the attention of the agency was drawn to it.

He said the agency’s response team alongside Lagos State Building Control Agency LASBCA, and Lagos State Material Testing Agency will be carrying out a full inspection and additional testing on the building.

Why the STRESS over an already diSTRESSed building? Due diligence should be employed. Safe evacuation of occupants, alternate abode should be granted them, discuss with the owner and help him cushion the effect of his loss. Then pull it down.

Imagine some of the tenants in this building just paid rent for some years and haven't used up 5 percent of the allocated time of the rent. l wonder what will be going on in their minds when they come across this news.

Nothing stops the agency from doing the proper thing by demolishing the unsafe building, but alternative/compensations must be provided for the landlord and affected tenants.
