And I am sure people have bought land there waiting to develop and some have already build on it. Why didn't they come when they started.

For better Lagos,Commissioner of Works should come to the aid of Ikorodu people by Parafa-Ikorodu -Itoke Road is an eyes-saw!
This bad road has been there for quite sometime now, even worse now that raining season is here.
Much as the road as whole(Ikorodu to Ijebu-Ode) cannot be up-graded to 4-lanes overnight, but for the constant repairs. This road has large volume of passengers, especially -Eastern Travellers because of its easy assess to Ondo,Ekiti Delta and other South,South States.
We hope that Minister of Works-Mr Fashola will do the needful to this road before his tenure expires. When we do well to our people, there will always be remembrance!

Why did they first allow them to build?

In Nigeria, those in charge will just come and mark an already built house as an illegal structure, but where were they when the structure was being built?

What happened during foundation, fencing stages?

They can come at any time of their pleasing. There is no adult in Nigeria who doesn't know that permits are required before any building is constructed. The benefit is on the authorities. The later a property is demolished the stronger the message is about development control.

Just like vehicle ownership. You don't expect the VIO to be present at every car lot to issue papers. The liability to get your papers lies with you and they will fine you whereever the find you without papers subsequently.

Commissioner visits Magodo Wetland, Restates Zero-Tolerance for Illegal Property Development

Lagos State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Idris Salako, on Tuesday, paid an official visit to the Magodo wetland for an on-the-spot assessment, just as he restated the State Government's zero-tolerance for illegal property development across the metropolis.

Speaking during the visit, Dr. Salako stated that the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, being responsible for the maintenance of an orderly, livable and sustainable environment in the State, would continue to implement the "zero tolerance" policy on all illegal physical developments, including the regrettable encroachment of the sensitive/ecological zones.

He noted that the visit to Magodo wetland became imperative as part of measures to preserve and prevent the misuse or abuse of all Greenbelts, Gorges, Water bodies, Wetlands and other vulnerable natural Landscapes in every part of the State.

Salako, therefore, assured Lagosians that the Ministry would continue to intensify efforts to enhance the sustainability of the environment by maintaining a diligent application of the State's policies and operational development plans.

During the visit, the Commissioner directed the sealing of all unapproved developments within the wetland zone, as well as buildings that exhibited clear signs of internal distress through tilting or cracks thereby raising questions about their structural stability.

Salako was accompanied on the visit by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Urban Development, Mr. Ganiyu Adele Ayuba; Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Arc. Foluso Adebayo Dipe; General Manager, Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority, Tpl. Funmi Oshifuye; General Manager, Lagos State Building Control Agency, Engr. Biola Kosegbe and General Manager, New Towns Development Authority, Tpl. Kunle Aboyeji.

Recall that the Lagos State Government had earlier decried the illegal and unapproved housing development along the Magodo greenbelt area of State.

Throwback:

Blame the corrupt government agencies who have turned approval to a means of corruptly enriching themselves.
