It's not really about that. It's more about strategy and economics than technology.

Its much more about economics of maintenance and the operating costs. Planes of that size are simply cost inefficient and makes it difficult for long term operating strategy for airlines. Airlines prefer fairly smaller planes with about 300 passengers or less. That was the reason the 737 Max was doing so well in the market until the fiasco crashes

Airbus planes are usually more comfortable but not always but this one is another beast entirely. When you enter it feels more like you're in a building than a plane it's very tall and wide. With it you can have over 500 people in one flight and still sit comfortably.

Now what's really exciting about it is the takeoff. It's might feel a bit slow and surprisingly not as loud as other planes. When it flies the wings 'flap' up and down sort of like birds wings. It can be really unsettling at first but the crew says it's normal.

All in all the service was very good, and it has to be because this plane is meant to be the most luxurious option with the best features.

Manyof those countries don't have the size of runway required to land an Airbus. One of the main reasons for expanding Abuja Airport runway was to accommodate A380, it means you can't fly it from Abuja to Calabar Airport

Even our 727s and 737s with less than 150 capacity hardly get filled, reason flights are stylishly delayed to even get them filled to 70% capacity sometimes. You are talkin over 600 passengers you’ll sleep at the gate till passengers begin vex come down.

I most certainly will. It became my go to bird for crossing the Atlantic via Europe.

the problem with it is unlike the 747 the A380 wasn’t designed with the flexibility to handle cargo. Most 747s are now used for cargo, you can easily load it, be it from the rear, sides and even Nose.

It was all a bad investment. When you look at the money alone you bow to the temptations of more and more at the expense (no pun intended) of logic.

It was always illogical from an environmental point of view particularly for an European plane maker and European airlines as Europe is a key driver of a green planet.

It was illogical that such a massive platform had no inherent second hand value simply because traditionally an aircraft spends the second half of its life with budget airlines who operate out of smaller airports and developing countries most of which cannot handle a plane of that size.

It was illogical from a fuel burn point of view since the price of oil, the cost of which is almost 40 percent of operational expenses is highly volatile. The Trent 1000 engines on a 380 are just monster fuel guzzlers. To have four in tandem is just crazy....then came ETOPS reform to sound the death knell. 2 engined aircraft could now cross the oceans and Boeing pounced with a masterstroke in the 777.

Anyway it was great while it lasted. Glad I was privileged to fly on the iconic aircraft of our time in keeping with family tradition. My dad did fly BA Concorde London/New York/London , 1980 for a conference at company expense... when Nigeria was good..

British airways, Qatar , Singapore, Qantas, Lufthansa etc will still be flying the A380. The bird isn't retiring yet.

the bird is retiring even Airbus it’s manufacturer has announced its retirement. The few airlines still flying it will stop latest 2022. Airbus has promised to support them with parts and technical support till then. You can google it.

Emirates their biggest customer announced this as far back as last year December .

You don't compare the Airbus A380 jumbo with Boeing 737, that's like comparing a Mercedes Benz G-wagon with a Kia Picanto. Airbus A380 Jumbo can be compared with likes of Boeing 747-400, Boeing 747-8, Antonov 225, Galaxy C5 and C130 Hercules

The World largest passenger plane, Some say the A380 was a massive mistake while others say it was ahead of its time. And then there are those who just love flying on this beast of an airplane. The massive four-engine, full double-decker is an engineering marvel. Unfortunately, it has fallen out of favor with airlines around the world and will cease production when the last orders have been fulfilled.
Some Airlines still using it are Emirates,Lufthansa,Qantas,British Airways, Singapore ,Korea, Asiana, Qatar, Etihad, Malaysia China southern and Air France

For example Qatar has plans to fly the A380 long after that mostly for Hajj and other special hauls which is why they have a in-house team of technicians trained for that purpose.

Good for them. Its economically unwise to retain them. Requires more unavailable passengers and burns more fuel. Better to use smaller aircrafts and save costs at this time
