COVID-19: FG To Dispatch Experts To Re-Engage Kogi's Government by ZAWs: 11:43pm On May 21, 2020
By Jeremiah Urowayino
The Federal Government on Thursday announced that a ministerial team of experts would soon be dispatched to Kogi on a mission to engage authorities of the state, to determine the material and technical needs of the state on COVID-19.

The Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, announced in Abuja at a news conference by the Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19.

Recall that the Kogi Government had alleged refusal of NCDC officials to observe protocols in line with the containment of the coronavirus when they visited the state.

The allegation stirred up drama between the two parties as the NCDC officials left Kogi without adhering to terms and conditions, rolled out by Gov. Yahaya Bello.

Following the development, Ehanire said the committee would need to re-engage the governor and work with him and his team to create conditions with which the NCDC officials could complete their job.

The minister said that the ministry had developed key performance indicators to track surveillance, strategic activities, and programmes.

He said that the ministry would also be working with states to establish protocols that would improve communication and reporting.

Ehanire noted that the fact-finding team that was sent to Cross River had returned and that the ministry had been able to identify areas of need in the state.

He said that the state’s level of preparedness was reasonable.

“They have set up a committee on COVID-19 and have also started making face masks and Personal Protective Equipment.”

He, however, said that a new medical team had been assembled to take over the management of This Day Dome Treatment Centre.

“Surveillance, contact tracing, and testing capacity are increasing in all states as more labs are being added to our network COVID-19 laboratories,” he said.

They should just send the Chinese doctors there.

Btw, Yahaya Bello is a bad case for leadership by young people. A very bad case.

When it starts, it won't end at his doorstep. Effect of Ganduje's nonsense on other states is a classical example.

Politics aside, Kogi government doesn't need to back down and must be bent on foiling any attempt to import Covid-19 into his State through the backdoor under his watch. If he's sure the necessary diagnostic and preventive measures are in place, then there's no course for alarm.

Covid-19 doesn't have to be everywhere abi na MTN network?

You cant force authority and control on anybody, Kogi people are not complaining, their Senators and Reps are silent, Kola Ologbondiyan of PDP is silent, Nathasha Apkothi is silent same as Dino Melaye... Kogites are not saying a damn thing... so why waste National resources and man power when such can be deployed to Oyo State having a sudden spike

I said this the other day & some people were supporting his stance that the virus in the country is all hoax. How can a sitting Governor not believe there’s a virus & testing less? It’s just plain stupidity

My questions are'

Has any index case been identified in Kogi State?

Has Kogi State recorded any Covid-19 related death? Or any strange death in numbers recently?

Have Kogi residents, senators, house of rep members, opposition's etc cried out or they've been silent on this?

Is there anything NCDC or MoH is trying to cover up? Or someone somewhere is scared a well orchestrated hoax is about to demystified?

What wants to start that haven't started for 3months. Kogi and Crossriver shows we can battle the virus while living a normal life.
With the spotlight on Kogi and cross river, any sign of unusual death would have gone round like wild fire.

It's obvious we imported hype and fear together with the virus when we have less to worry about.

Already, the country is going into a great recession. That's something more to worry about.

The world was caught unawares on Corona virus.

In our hurry and haste to develop and produce testing kits, what if there was a mistake somewhere.

What if there is nothing like asymptomatic Covid-19 case?.

What if the test kits are falsely reading other virus and disease in the body like malaria as Covid 19?..
