Wow. NTA days.

This generation is lucky. So many avenues of entertainment.

We had NTA 2 Channel 5 n NTA Channel 10 . Then LagosTV n on weekends they call it Lagos Weekend TV.

On Radio we had FRCN where we listened to Bisi Olatilo n China Anyamkpa n others I can't remember now.


One of the best things to happen to Nigeria's media n entertainment industry was the giving of licences to private TV n radio stations.

The European Economic Community (EEC), later known as the European Union, sponsored a series of documentaries in Africa and they were shown on NTA2 Channel 5 in the late 1980s and early 1990s. This song was the theme song of the documentary.

NTA2 Channel 5 also briefly used it in one of their station idents.

I also enjoyed watching URTNA 1/2 hour. The programme exposed us to so many African musics n artistes.
I stayed glued to the TV anytime it aired.

A legend just gone. He was the face of Kora in the world. If you don't know, Kora is one of Africa most popular musical instrument after talking drum and "Shekere". A culture heritage that originated from the Madinka ethnic tribe (Kunta Kinte's people), a tribe spread all across more than 8 countries in West Africa (Côte d'ivoire, Mali, Burkina Faso, Sénégal, Gambia, Sierra Leone, Guinea Conakry, even Bissau Guinea). Wherever, you find the Madinka, they share same languages and culture. Mory Kanté, according to his kinsmen's traditions, was a "Griot" which we can refer to in English as an "eulogizer". A griot performs many functions in the old Madinka society. He is a town crier by default, he attends marriages, burial, naming ceremony, etc... He is held in high esteem in the community, and Mory was. I really enjoyed his music. Alas! He bade farewell! His legacy will keep us entertained for a very long time.

URTNA! They always showed Nayanka Bell from Ivory Coast and Zangalewa from Cameroon. They also showed a lot of Alpha Blondy and Lucky Dube's songs.

They were made honorary members of the Cameroon Army by President Biya. They are also the official entertainers of the president.
