The age of the Earth is estimated to be 4.54 ± 0.05 billion years (4.54 × 109 years ± 1%). This age may represent the age of the Earth's accretion, or core formation, or of the material from which the Earth formed.

The Earth is very old. But how old, exactly? And how can we know with any degree of confidence?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YSau4HTNjkE

As Henry Reich describes in the video above, the process of scientifically estimating the age of the Earth revolves around, essentially, finding the oldest piece of the planet we can, then figuring out how old that piece is.

Finding super old rocks is conceptually straightforward, but practically difficult. The processes of plate tectonics mean that the Earth is constantly recycling its rock, breaking it down into magma in the interior before pumping it back up to the surface once more. But old rocks do exist, says Reich, and the oldest rock we know is a tiny piece of zircon found in western Australia.

The process of figuring out a rock's age often falls to the scientific techniques of radiometric dating, the most famous of which is radiocarbon dating. This process focuses on the ratio between the number of carbon-14 and carbon-12 isotopes in any once-living being: that ratio indicates how long it's been since that being was alive. But carbon is not the only element that can be dated—a whole host of others exist. In uranium-lead dating, for instance, the radioactive decay of uranium into lead proceeds at a reliable rate.

Based on the very old zircon rock from Australia we know that the Earth is at least 4.374 billion years old. But it could certainly be older. Scientists tend to agree that our planet is around 4.54 billion years old—give or take a few hundred million.

This 80-million-year-old reptile is among the earliest alligatorids known to science.

There are recent finds of alligator fossils found in Africa that are over 200 million years old.

That means our planet earth is way older than the sun. In the next few millions years to come, say 8million years, the sun would fry the earth cos by then it must have exhausted its hydrogen and helium content. It would come for that of earth. That would be the natural death of our planet. This is the reason why scientists are exploring space for possible alternative but that his highly impossible for now cos no other planet can accomodate living beings. Mars that was close have very little or no oxygen in its atmosphere. It also has little nitrogen and too much carbondioxide. These properties are not suitable for living.

so apperantly, humans will sieze to exist in 8 milion years time..

I would love to with witness this in 3d cheesy

Not really, the studies suggest that we've another 4.5 billion years and then some.

The sun is a medium sized star at birth, is a G type yellow star in its middle age now. A medium sized star has a life span of about 10000 million years. Large stars have the shortest life span, live for few million years while the small stars has the longest life span.

How does this prove your earlier assertion, "in the next few millions years to come, say 8million years, the sun would fry the earth cos by then it must have exhausted its hydrogen and helium content."

10,000 million years highlighted above is an equivalent of 10 billion years.

It's good you have interest in science, astronomy to be specific, but you need to get your facts right. Read more and wider.

The earth cannot be older than the sun, as the same accretion process created both at about the same time.

The sun is not expected to exhaust it's hydrogen fuel in the next 8 million but the next 4 billion years. The sun is a medium sized yellow dwarf star that his only half way through its life span.

If the sun should starts the dying process by expanding and shedding off its outer layers, all the planets in the solar system would be affected. You cannot emigrate to Mars or any other planet.

Bro, the figure can be quite confusing a times. The same scientists told us from their radioisotope dating of the oldest known rock on earth was formed nearly 4billion years ago. Based on this, they concluded that'll the earth is between 4.5 - 5.0billion years old. We were also told that the sun is like a hydrogen bomb burning slowly and they also estimated that in 8,000 million (this is where the confusion is. I think the '8,000 million' means 8 billion) years, it would exhaust its supply of hydrogen and would expand and fry the earth. Another confusion is the sun being a medium-sized G type yellow star and they made us to believe that a medium-sized star has a lifespan of 10,000 million years. Mathematically nothing like '10,000 million'. I think that suppose to mean 10billion years.

The confusion is that there is a difference between US and UK connotations. The US billion is 9 zeros. meanwhile, the UK billion used to be 1 million million which is 12 zeros, until they changed to the US system in the 70s. For example, the US 1100, 1200, 1300, etc., eleven hundred, twelve hundred, thirteen hundred, and so on.

In terms of their age and other innumerable facets, it's been proven that our planet and our sun are relative to one another.

Lol! No, our planet isn’t older than the Sun.

To assert that the Earth is older is like arguing that a child was born before their dad.

No, our planet isn’t older than the Sun..

That's a straw man's argument.

I will not engage in such an argument about the age of our planet and our Sun.

Attempting such an argument for me is tantamount to cutting off one's nose to spite the face.

But what I can tell you is a story.

You see, there was a story that persist in Kemit, said to be a door way in our Sun that once one is able to reach there, a wormhole that can take explorers to any known cordinate in our universe.

There's a theory that some of the people of Kemit knew how to travel through space usingthe portals in our Sun.

You don't have the answer to what you are disputing.

And as I have stated earlier, I will not be getting into an argument over that, due to the fact that it is the wrong argument to be getting into.
