Gonorrhea, is one of the most common venereal diseases in Nigeria. Because many people do not notice their infection, the pathogens keep spreading. They can cause infertility.

Gonorrhea is caused by certain bacteria (Neisseria gonorrhoeae, gonococci) that are transmitted during sexual intercourse. The pathogens particularly affect mucous membranes in the urethra and genital organs. The anal area and throat can also be affected. Gonococcal infections in the eyes are not caused by sexual contact, they mainly occur in newborns.

Infections with gonococci on genital organs (genital gonorrhea, genital gonorrhea) are sometimes very mild or without any symptoms. When symptoms occur, they are different in women and men.

Does a yellowish-greenish droplet emerge from the opening of the urethra on your penis in the morning before urination and is there any visible discharge?
Do you have light, milky vaginal discharge?
Do you feel increased urination, burning or pain before and during urination?
If gonorrhea of the genitals is noticeable, it is usually due to symptoms such as discharge, urge to urinate or burning. However, quite a few gonococcal infections of the genitals do not cause any symptoms at all. That is why there is often no treatment. However, affected people are potential carriers of the disease. Even more often, gonococcal infections on organs other than the genitals (extragenital gonorrhea) go unnoticed because the majority of them have no symptoms. However, people with such infections form undiscovered reservoirs for the pathogens. As a result, Gonorrhoea can continue to spread among the population.

Gonorrhea almost always comes about through sexual contact (exceptions: eye gonorrhea in newborns and through self-infection). Gonococci can colonize the mucous membranes of the cervix, urethra, anus, mouth and throat . They are transmitted through direct contact from infected mucous membranes to gonococcal-free ones. Other ways of infection are largely ruled out because the highly specialized gonococci die quickly outside the body and gonorrhea occurs only in humans. Infants with gonococci always suspect that abuse is the cause in children older than one year.

Condoms significantly reduce the risk of infection , but do not provide complete protection. MouthAction can lead to infection even without contact with sperm or blood. The best way to prevent this is through solid relationships. If you notice itching, burning, discharge or similar suspicious symptoms , you should have a gonococcal examination to avoid complications yourself and to protect others. In the case of frequently changing sexual partnerships, a gonococcal test is recommended once a year.

Doctors first ask about symptoms and sexual behavior (frequency, changing partnerships, orientation, etc.). Then they create cultures with the pathogens in order to determine them microscopically and to determine their antibiotic resistance or sensitivity using an antibiogram. Because gonococci are usually found in several parts of the body, it makes sense to make several smears for the sample material - from the urethra, anus, throat and, in women, from the cervix. If the results are positive, tests should be carried out for other sexually transmitted diseases (STD) , at least for chlamydia, syphilis and HIV.Infections with chlamydia in particular are so similar to gonorrhea that they cannot be distinguished on the outside. Up to a third of people with gonorrhea also have an infection with chlamydia, which is usually treated at the same time.

You can order for an anonymous gonorrhea test in nigeria or Gonorrhea self test kit in nigeria
