CHAPTER 27

Hey fam, MINE is gradually coming to an end. Hopefully, we get to meet on my other stories. I do not take your support for granted. xoxo

“No…”, Temmy groaned from the bed as Freda shook her awake.

“I want to sleep.”

“It’s Seeni, and he has called twice already.”

“Just pick it, It’s probably birthday wishes. He'll understand.”

“Girl, it’s your birthday, not mine.”

She reluctantly picked the call and put it on speaker so she could continue to snooze.

“Hi, baby.” Seeni cooed from the other end.

“Hello darling, how are you?” Temmy asked in her sleep laden voice.

“I can sense that you just woke up, that man did not allow you to sleep abi?”

“Fornicator,” Freda said on the side. “Not everyone is like you.”

Seeni laughed. “You this girl, what am I going to do with you?”

“I am your nemesis.”

“I don’t have your time today. Happy birthday, baby. I wish you every good thing you desire.”

“Aww thanks, darling, I really appreciate this.”

“You know I love you,” He replied

“And those million girls you are constantly hanging out with on IG.”Freda accused

“Temmy knows she’s the real deal, ” came the reply.

“Don’t mind her darling, I trust you. Can I go back to sleep now?”

“No, you can not. Any plans for today?”

“Wait! I thought you are out of the city for one of your shows?” Freda cut in again

“I can do anything for my sweetheart, trust me.”

“Nothing really, Adedamola is out of the country so I am riding low key today.”

“Don’t mind her, I am taking her out this evening, ” Freda grumbled

“Oh! That’s true.”

“She can’t remember, because I am not her man.”

“I told you I’ll take your place someday,” Seeni directed at Freda

“Keep saying that to yourself, till you believe it.” Freda bickered.

“I am coming into Lagos today, so I'll join you guys at any location you pick.”

“Aww. That’s so sweet of you.” Temmy cooed at him.

They had maintained their friendship even after service and they started working. Seeni was in and out of the country but they never lost contact to Damola’s dismay.

“Anything for you darling,” Seeni replied.

“Let Damola catch you,” Freda said and got a swat from her friend

“That guy has nothing on me o, I am hustling real hard to make money like him and roll in his circle.”

“Don’t mind Freda,” Temmy laughed.

“ Damola has got nothing on a big boy like you. I will see you later today?”

“Okay honey, sleep tight and dream of me.” He replied

“How can you even tell her to sleep tight? It’s 10 am on her birthday.”

“Duh, bye,” Seeni replied her and cut the call from his end.

“Wake up joor,” Freda shook Temmy who turned to the other side of the bed and continued with her sleep.

“Pleeeaassee, ” Temmy pleaded.

“No, we need to get…” the knock on the door cut her off.

“I'll get that, ” She said and walked out.

Temmy tried to go back to sleep. Adedamola had kept her up all night because of the time difference. She really wished he could be here but he had to go out of the country for an important course.

He wanted to be the first person to wish her a happy birthday despite the fact that he's been at lectures all day and was already tired. She was too, but talking to the love of her life gave her a lift and she listened to him recount all the details of what happened the day before. Hopefully, he should be back in the country this week and they'd have the time of their lives of course.

“ Babes, you need to see this,” Freda shouted from the living room.

Temmy gave up on sleep and scrambled off the bed to join her friend in the living room.

Freda was still opening the package and checking out the content when she opened the curtain to the living room.

“Wow! It’s from Seeni, and he didn’t say anything on the phone.”

Temmy smiled and went to join her friend. She looked at the lovely cake with a variation of her favorite colors. Seeni sure knows how to wow the ladies she thought. She sometimes wonders how his new girlfriend copes. It took a lot of time for him to convince the girl to date him and she usually got every bit of detail from him because they were that close.

“Awww, there is a chocolate box,” Temmy smiled

“That boy ehn! He better get me something like this for my birthday.”

Temmy bursts out laughing.

A knock at the door called their attention again.
Freda runs to open the door and Toye came in.

He dropped the package with him on the nearest sofa and pulled Freda into his arms for a long kiss.

“You people should not blind me please,” Temmy teased.

“As if Damola does not do worse, ” Toye grumbled coming up for air.

“What do we have here?”

“It’s a package from Damola. The guy did not allow me to sleep. He wanted me to get here as early as possible.”

“Aww,” Freda mumbled with a smile

“Aww what? You know I can do better.” Toye went to open the door again

“What’s that?” Freda followed.

“A guy is coming up the stairs with her cake.”

“I am going to get stuffed today. Away with fit fam” Freda said waving her hand in the air in a happy dance.

“I am not complaining,” Toye smirked giving her suggestive looks

“What will you say before?”

“Today is about me guys, no hanky panky.” Temmy cautioned both of them

“This way please, ” Freda motioned to the guy that entered with a huge cake.

“The cake seems to have an opening,” Freda said behind the guy.

“Yes ma'am, you are supposed to open it from here and check in for your surprise.” The delivery guy explained to Freda.

“Oh! I am not the celebrant.” Freda replied.

Temmy stood at the spot looking at the cake. It was huge and she wondered what he had asked them to put in it.

“Thank you,” Toye tipped the guy as he departed. He picked up the package he came in with and joined the girls in the living room.

“Let’s open up,” Freda urged.

Temmy bent beside the cake and dipped her hand into the opening.

“Aren’t you supposed to capture the moment?” Toye asked Freda.

“Is it a ring?”

“How do I know?” I am just the messenger. I don’t live in the guy's head.”

Temmy quietly pulled out the object her hand came in contact with, in the cake.
Heart pounding, she pulled out the first bill, it was a one thousand naira note. She tried to dislodge It from whatever was holding it and another one was pulled out. Then another, then another.

Freda looked on in amazement. She could see the genuine happiness on her friend's face as she pulled the unending naira notes from the cake. She was definitely in for a surprise today and Freda could categorically say that the best was yet to come and today would probably go down in history as her friend's best birthday yet.

SEE YOU NEXT TIME.
