The Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki has mentioned what he considers as “the bottom line” of his quarrel with Adams Oshiomhole, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The protracted quarrel between the two has the potential to thwart the governor’s second term ambition and even prevent the APC from winning the forthcoming governorship election in Edo state.

“I do not have a rift with him (Oshiomhole) as a person. I just do not agree with how some decision is taken, as it relates to the party. It is not in the interest of our party,” Mr Obaseki said in an interview with Channels TV, on Sunday

Mr Obaseki said Mr Oshiomhole has been a disruption to the decision-making process of the APC in Edo state.

“Our quarrel has been that we are doing things that are outside the constitution of our party. The logic of democracy is that it’s the people that should drive democracy. Democracy should be built bottom-up, and not top-down. Democracy should start from the base,” the governor said.

“So in the last four years, we in Edo have restructured our party, we have built from the unit, through the wards, through the local government (areas), and to the state.

“And the executive at every level are in harmony. Our party is very strong in the state and the quarrel is that the party is not allowed to make its decisions from the base, decisions are imposed from the top, and that’s not auguring well; it’s creating disharmony within the system.”

Mr Obaseki said in the Channels TV interview that he has not met nor spoken with the APC national chairman “recently”.

Mr Oshiomhole, a former governor of Edo State, helped Mr Obaseki to succeed him as governor in 2016, against all the odds. The two fell apart politically shortly after Mr Obaseki assumed office.

With his position as the APC national chairman, Mr Oshiomhole is the biggest obstacle to Mr Obaseki’s second term ambition.

How can you talk about democracy yet refused the swearing in of 14 lawmakers out of 24?

Get you stories straight...

The house was inaugurated with the Governors consent and proclamation, the 14 lawmakers absconded because they were not happy with the inauguration which they were were absent but communicated (case study Saraki vs NASS 2015). That could not get them to elect Oshiomole's cabal as speaker.

They decided to not attend plenary again to be sworn in , the speaker deemed it fit to declare their seats vacant as allowed in the constitution after 181days of not representing their people..

I dont know what is this man problem. You saying decision of the party should be bottom up from the units, wards, LG then states..

My question is since you now popular among party members from wards and LG, why are you more scared of direct primaries? Oshiomole is in Abuja and might have lost touch with party members in the state, u should be going from ward to ward trying to get these people by your side and stop spitting thrash everyday on media

The Edo APC wants indirect primary while the Abuja APC wants the direct primary..

But APC Constitution didn’t give the stateAPC power to choose or organize primary. It is the responsibility of NWC in Abuja.

You’re twisting the story that is on public domain. The house was inaugurated in the middle of the night with just 10 members.
When the NASS ask Obaseki to re-inaugurate the house what stopped him for over a year?
APC sent 2 committees to Edo to resolve the issues but same Obaseki refused to meet with them.
What about the destruction of properties of those that are not in his camp?
Remember how he went to use trucks to block the streets that leads to Oshiomhole’s house in GRA.
His deputy’s petition and press conference at Abuja asking the IGP to arrest Oshiomhole?
Asking Oshiomhole to always seek for his permission before coming into the state.
And the last one plotting and celebrating the removal of Oshiomole by a FCT high court.
Obaseki didn’t have good advisers and now he’s facing the repercussions of his actions.

Don’t mind them. When Obaseki was acting like a loose dog they were all clapping for him that he will deal with Oshiomhole. Now that Oshiomhole is giving Obaseki in doggy style they’re shouting No to God fatherism.
I said it that PMB will not help him.

One thing is sure; Obaseki and Oshiomole will go down politically. None of them will rise above their current positions politically. Hatred is being built against APC chairman in all quarters. Osho is a goner. it's clear that Osho cannot unite the party

Thanks, a bunch for the brief lecture.

It is clear that most of those supporting and rooting for their oppressors are genuinely ignorant of the facts.

The stupid lawbreakers ran down to Abuja and started fomenting trouble from there with the backing of their "tailor-made" godfather who lacks understanding of the law while hoping to get the NASS' backing to truncate the peace at the EDSHA.

He should help erase the party from the state while getting disgraced and booted out nationally by his slave masters.

May God help us all.

God bless Edo State.

God bless Nigeria.

I hope Oshiomole's haughtiness cost their party the state, so that the ripple effect will make every other politicians and Godfathers think wise and twice in their dealings.

what more does Oshiomhola want politically that he hasn't achieved?.. its Obaseki's future you should be worried about

Is this still the same Osho who fought Late Chief Anenih for godfather issues? Obaseki talks too much, thats my problem with him.. He should do the needful. He should silent Osho, like Osho did to Anenih.. Karma must be dancing ,,Carry me dey go " right now..

If Edo people make mistake of voting Obasiki or Ize ,none of them will work.. These thieves are after the money and power not the good of Edo people.. They should vote someone who is not PDP or APC..

Let them try a new political party.. That's the only solution I see here.. Oba kha tokpe en... Iseh!
