Your Friend: Hey, I bet you 10 bucks that you can’t hold your breath for five minutes!
You: You’re about to owe me ten dollars!
(You dive in the pool)
(You start holding your breath)
After 30 seconds: *You start to feel a little queasy but think it’s still a piece of cake*
After 1 minute: *You start to feel hungry for air and are tempted to go up and breathe, but then you realize you’ll lose 10 bucks if you do*
After 1:30 minutes: *Your face starts turning blue from the lack of oxygen. You start feeling very uncomfortable and the urge to go up and breathe is like hell*
After 2 minutes: *You feel extreme pain and your lungs feel like they’re about to be crushed. This is the last thing you remember before you lose consciousness.*
*1 hour later: You wake up*
Doctor: Oh my gosh, you’re lucky to have survived. You nearly drowned in the pool, but the lifeguard pulled you out, gave you CPR, and took you to the nearest emergency center.
You: Wow, how long was I out for?
Doctor: Umm, about 1 hour. Also, you stopped breathing and your heart stopped beating during that time. We had to pump your chest and use the defibrillator on you to get you back alive again!
You: Wow, thanks.
(You then see your friend standing by you.)
Your Friend: Hey, what did I tell you? You were out within 2 minutes! Gimme your ten dollars!
You: Actually, I held my breath for 1 hour, because the doctor told me I stopped breathing for an hour. So, actually, you give me 10 dollars.
