How Can Benin Kingdom Survive Without Access To Sea? by Nobody: 4:00pm On Jun 14, 2020
Just like igbos and their biafra, they are landlocked and don't have access to the ocean, Benin kingdom will face the same problem if nigeria was to be divided.

Apparently only Yoruba, ijaw, itskerri, ogoni and akwa cross people have access to the Sea.

A landlocked country already put a nation at a disadvantage. It limits navy power and exports.

When I said Benin kingdom I meant Benins, esans and Edo north groups.

I would like to know your opinions on this issue.

Have ever wondered also how Mali, Niger and many other landlocked countries in the World survive?
The sea is not only the means of survival my brother...

The best bet is for Benin kingdom is to join Biafra and form committee of landlock nations.

Benin has Ughoton/Gwatto port. Europeans used to berth there. There is even plan to consolidate and dredge the port. The Atlantic is directly accessible from it. So Edo was never landlocked even before imperial times in 1440.

Of course in imperial times access to the sea was multiple.

The ughoton river connects to the ocean that was how the Portuguese sailed to benin, we also have the gegele sea port, too, benin will survive my brother

I'm just gonna point out how Edo state lies on the Niger river. If Nigeria was divided into its constituent states, it'd be very easy to set up a regional agreement to declare the Niger an international waterway (e.g. the Danube here in Europe), thus ensuring access to the Sea. Notice how Switzerland was able to build a pretty large (for a landlocked country) high sea commercial fleet via the river connection (Danube -> Black Sea -> Mediterrean Sea)

Let's be realistic here Benin was the first place Europeans visited or step into in Nigeria...

So what was their means of transportation, it was definitely via the sea...

Case closed Edo was never landlock

Sea is not necessarily an important part in the making of a nation but if you so much love the sea, we have Ughoton and Gwato to access the sea. And from Ughoton to the sea is just 16.5 nautical miles and according to the UN law of sea we have up to 21 nautical miles into the sea. So there you have it

In your dreams, there so many of you in your kingdom even your family benefiting heavily from this arrangement than won't allow this to work. the multi - billion investments of igbo daydreamers in other parts will go where. what befalls my own christian minorty brethren in the north being protected by our oneoess (though they are being killed daily in kaduna etc), not to talk of your oshiomole and his political predators, likes and what they enjoy? What do have to wrest your dream country from the rest of us?

It's always surprising to me the number of educated Nigerians who do not understand what 'landlocked' means. That is why some semi-literate boys were insulting Edochie for saying Igboland is landlocked.

Having an inland river port does not mean you are not landlocked. If your ports do not lie directly on the Atlantic Ocean, if vessels have to meander up north through territories belonging to other people to get to your ports, my dear, you are landlocked!

The people whose territory ships have to sail through to get to your port can deny access to ships going to your ports (especially if there is no international treaty mandating that the river be kept open), and your inland river ports will become useless.

This is why people like Edochie have been calling for tact and diplomacy, so you don't end up alienating the people your economic well-being might end up being dependent upon.

nigeria will surely divide, it might be next year or next 100 years, the fact remains nigeria will break up because it's not a nation, it's a forced company with ethnic nationalities that has nothing in common.

Don't bother bro. no one would have thought of boko haram revolution in the north. as many of them that are getting educated, they in the north will be delivered themselves. you think they hold the rest of up in bondage, yes, they too are in bondage of ignorance. No empire rules for ever. The north itself will implode.

Stop fooling yasef. If Nigeria breaks the Oba of Bini will be under Ijaw rulership in Niger Delta Republic.

Bini/Edo is a village. A village cannot become a country.
