Hello Nairalanders, I have been thinking over this for a while about Nigeria Football players. Has anyone notice all Nigeria players playing in big football clubs, whenever they reign or played well for a particular season, after some years or season they become irrelevant or the potency of their football skills diminished. Mikel, Obafemi Martins, Eminike, Victor Moses, Iwobi and co they were once a powerful and skillful player why are they no longer skillful unlike before?

I think it all depends on individual, most of our football players are too lazy to sustain the pace of their football skills.

Footballers play for 3 things; Money, fame and trophies. But unfortunately, due to our elongated suffering and poverty ridden mindset and upbringing, our footballers stop playing as soon as they achieve the first on the list.... remember virtually all the Naija based players have one suffering story or the other to tell.

That's why many make their way to Europe, sign their first pro contract and that marks the end... Only a few fraction of Nigeria players abroad make fame while a very small percentage of those who made fame pursue trophies.

It takes more than passion and talent to pursue legendary status at club level and most of our players only play for the money or to eradicate poverty in their family.

For the likes of Iwobi and Anichebe who were born and raised abroad, well, it might shock you to know that these guys were born into average families over there and we shouldn't get ahead of ourselves to think they were born by rich immigrant parents. That same ideology of remember your root would have been transferred from their parents. So theoretically speaking, they're still raised with a poor man's mind and that's what affects their professional career.

Mikel should not be included on that list cos he did really fine at Chelsea. But I think it depends on the individual. Laziness, been carried away by little fame, money minded and lack of determination.
