¹⁹ And his daughter in law, Phinehas' wife, was with child, near to be delivered: and when she heard the tidings that the ark of God was taken, and that her father in law and her husband were dead, she bowed herself and travailed; for her pains came upon her.

²⁰ And about the time of her death the women that stood by her said unto her, Fear not; for thou hast born a son. But she answered not, neither did she regard it.

²¹ And she named the child Ichabod, saying, The glory is departed from Israel: because the ark of God was taken, and because of her father in law and her husband.

²² And she said, The glory is departed from Israel: for the ark of God is taken.


In the above scripture, we see a child born in a very unfortunate situation in Isreal.

The Isrealites were terribly defeated in battle against the Philistines, losing the two sons of Eli, and Eli himself as the high priest. But worst still, the ark of God, a symbol of God's glorious presence over the nation Isreal, was captured by the Philistines.

The woman on hearing the news about her husband's death and the capturing of God's ark symbolizing God's glory over Israel, called her child Ichabod: meaning "no glory."

Indeed, when God's glory lifts, terrible things happen to us. The reason why mankind is facing all kinds of troubles, problems, afflictions, pains, sorrows, etc. is because of ICHABOD: NO GLORY!


The greatest tragedy to hit mankind was to lose God's glory.

“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”
— Romans 3:23

Adam and Eve were clothed with God's glory and never knew they were physically naked. Indeed, they were physically naked, but they were covered spiritually with God's glorious light.

In the same way, when we carry God's glory, it acts as a covering for us, making us appear more beautiful beyond our physical clothing.

When God created man and woman, He created them with so much glory. But when they sinned, that glory, that glorious covering, was lifted.

Adam and his wife suddenly realized to their shame that they were naked and sought to cover themselves with leaves sown together. (Genesis 3:7)

When God's glory lifts, shame manifests. Just like when a theif is caught in public, usually, he or she is stripped of all their clothes to put them to shame.

People whose lives are empty of God's glory, live shameful lives. They are ashamed of themselves and usually hide from others to keep their shame secret.

Check your life carefully; is there any shame in your life? Are there any shameful secrets in your life you don't want others to know? Your life in one way or the other, must have been emptied of God's glory.

Adam and Eve were so ashamed, they hid themselves from God as He approached them for fellowship. Genesis 3:

Usually people who are ashamed of themselves, not only hide from others, but also God! Such people slowly stop going to church, slowly stop serving God, slowly stop fellowshipping with brethren,slowly stop praying, slowly stop reading God's Word, etc. Until they abandon God completely.

Many people who now claim that they are atheists, were once strong believers in God. But when shameful situations like joblessness, poverty, backwardness, infertility, failure, etc. came in, their faith in God began to shake.

What is the glory of God?

It is the manifestation of His presence, like glorious light, by His WORD through the Holy Spirit. (Genesis 1:1-3)

When God said "let there be light" light manifested by His Word through the Holy Spirit.

So God's Word manifests His presence like radiant light. Whenever we spend quality or much time in God's Word, His presence is manifested in our lives like glorious light. Many times, people see God's glory on our lives, but we are unaware.

God created man in His own image and likeness to reflect His glory.

The more of God's glory in your life, the more you resemble or look like God in His awesome glory. The more younger, beautiful or handsome you look, even in common clothes.

Infact, the glory of God will change your appearance altogether. Your clothes will be more glorious like Solomon:

“Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.”
— Luke 12:27

A vital purpose of God's glory is to subject everything on earth under our feet. God gave man His glory to dominate the earth:

⁴ What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?

⁵ For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.

⁶ Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet:

⁷ All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field;

⁸ The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas.

The more of God's glory in your life, the more all things are subjected to you: your problems, your enemies, demons, curses, sicknesses, people, things, animals, etc.

Why? God made us in His own image to dominate the earth as His representatives.

The more of God's glory in your life, the more glorious your life becomes; shame becomes a thing of the past.

I want to prophesy to someone reading this: as you continue to spend more extra time to study God's Word, your shameful situations will become glorious In Jesus name.

Please note, the New Testament carries more glory than the Old Testament, so it's advisable to spend more time in the New testament than the Old. (2 Corinthians 3:7-10)
