OPEN LETTER TO NLC, FEDERAL MINISTRY OF LABOUR AND FEDERAL GOVERNMENT OF NIGERIA I am not writing this letter to belittle the efforts of the government at any level towards tackling unemployment in the country but I am actually using this to call the attention of the necessary bodies to the inhuman trend adopted by a large percentage of employers and Human Resource Managers across the country. "2 - 3 years experience" is the new slang in town for most employers now thereby giving little or no hope to fresh graduates. It is shocking to even see job adverts for "internship" still requesting for ridiculous skills and years of experience. This act can be defined as a deliberate way of frustrating new graduates on hopes of getting a job. The big question I want to ask employers is "if you all want years of experience, who will employ the ones without experience?" I am not speaking for those who do net possess the skills to fit into your organization but for those who have their degrees and other certifications while these people are moving about from one frustrating HR to another, age catches up with them and the same employers now want 25 years old with 3 years experience. I am pleading with the NLC and other related bodies to look into this before this gets out of hands. If you are conversant with LinkedIn now, majority of people celebrating new roles not fresh jobs. How did we get here? I do hope that this open letter meets the right people and a change is effected in that regard. Happy Weekend! Lalasticlala |
