TMS Media reports that Borno State Government has recruited 12,735 hunters and vigilantes as members of Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) to help fight insecurity in the state.

Alhaji Sugun Mai-Mele, the state Commissioner for Local Government and Emirate Affairs, made this known on Saturday while briefing newsmen on activities and achievements of the ministry within the past one year.

Mai-Mele revealed that N131.9 million would be spent monthly in paying the recruits to enhance security in the 25 local government areas of the state.

“The initiative was geared toward return of peace at the local government level. This measure is aimed at providing complementary services to the security operatives and subsequently building the confidence of the populace."

“The state has also sought the engagement of mobile police force who will be deployed and stationed at Magumeri, Konduga, Damboa and Nganzai Local Government Areas (LGAs) as their operational centres."

“All this efforts are geared toward providing adequate security to local communities,” Mai-Mele said.

The commissioner said that the ministry has successfully furnished the palaces of the Shehu of Dikwa and that of Bama, vandalised by insurgents.

Mai-Mele also said that the ministry constructed a befitting office complex for Local Government Pension Board and furnished the council secretariats of Monguno, Biu and Bayo LGAs.

He said, “We also electrified 16 villages in Hawul and Shani LGAs."

The commissioner stated that the ministry had procured 3,000 metric tonnes of fertiliser and 134 tractors for farmers in the rural areas, as part of measures to boost agriculture.

Mai-Mele said that the governor had approved the release of 80 per cent counterpart fund to the State Primary Education Board for the continual rehabilitation and reconstruction of infrastructure in rural schools.

He said that the ministry was able to carry out immunisation activities in collaboration with the state primary healthcare agency and Ministry of Health.

“We also inaugurated COVID-19 committees at the local government level to curb further spread of the virus,” he said.

Difference between this and amotekun is the noise made.

If only they quietly did it without much noise it would have work smoothly like OPC, APC and other plenty more vigilante operating in Nigeria etc.

The Govs needed to make noise to score cheap point that they are making progress.

The question is ever since Amotekun ,what successes have they recorded differently. We have also since Bakassi boys and all that.

All leaders at state and federal play to the gallery on security matters and security votes honestly. Cosmetic dressing always.

It easy to spot people of substance wherever they are found. Through their action and inaction you see they have something to offer. Prof. Zulum may your fountain of wisdom never dry.

An exemplary governor, his achievements unbelievable. Wish we could pair his likes with Peter Obi, Osinbajo, Duke, etc, but too much illiteracy will not allow us

If my calculations are correct the recruits will be getting 10k monthly stipend to forsake their jobs and do what the army and police are supposed to be doing.

Really impressed with the high works of Borno State Governor.

What people don't know is the retardation and retrogression insecurity has cost the Borno State.

Don't forget this state has one of the finest university in this country but alas insecurity has trampled that to null.

I pray that normalcy is restored and security for both the lows and highs in the Borno state is restored.

Prof. Zulum is always on point. How I wish, others should copy from him and by God's grace insecurity in my dear country will soon be forgotten.

Infact, my opinion as a concern Borno State indigene, I wish the FG can amend the constitution to allow our Governor Prof. Zulum to serve many terms as he wants until he says otherwise.

We're so lucky this time around to have a person who have the interest of the masses at heart. Even with the issue of the insecurity on ground, Prof. Zulum has proven himself to be the chosen one.

May God bless you and protect you.
