No it won’t work biko. The extract is not exposed to the kinda heat that gives palm oil. They are not the same o. Palm fruit extracts are sold in stores, you can use that.

For some of us that don't have mortar and pestle. What other alternative is available?

Ghana even make banga soup.
All the canned palm concentrates I use for ofe akwù are packaged by Ghana. All west African countries use palm fruit concentrate to prepare different soups or stew depending on the name it's giving.

So you guys should stop this.
stop what? sorry I’m lost

Nobody owns it (alone). Food is universal and different people will have a way of making different meals around one “source”- in this case banga. They will all have the version native to them. I never knew Ibibio people have something very similar till my friend saw me cooking this.

Yes, it is really tasty and I have heard people say it is healthier. You should try it. wink
ok dear thanks

1- Buy the packaged palm fruit extract in a store.

2- Use your hands to take off the husk and crush it. Easier to do when it is “hot”.

3- Put in a pot and pound with the bottom of a bottle, that wooden stuff for turning garri or anything safe that can imitate a pestle.

Ofe Akwu is very different from Banga soup. Infact it is traditional to the NNEWI people.

You don't put tomatoes to OFE AKWU, just like you don't add Palm-oil to tomato stew, it is aberation which obviously will be frowned at in the village.

Goat meat will add a great taste to OFE AKWU...

Good food is good biko.

I can cook but I eat better.

Daalu @Pocohanters

Remain blessed.

Nothing to add. Enough said.

I don't know the meaning of Banga..

I only know of palm fruits which yields palm nut after processing and whose equivalent meaning in Igbo is Akwu..

You can as well tell us the language your "Banga" is Indigeneous to...?

You don’t know the meaning, more reason you should keep quiet- but that isn’t your forte. You rather tear your clothes as if someone is dragging the origin of your OFE AKWU with you. Hian! grin

Oga she is right
I am from Anambra

But Deltans have there own version called banga, they eat with starch.
I have eaten there own version and it's different.

All around West Africa palm soup is cooked. Ghana, Akwa ibom etc

Amazing looking food. It is making me hungry to levels you can’t imagine. And I just had some fruit (pineapple) which tends to me hungry... cry
I would make my ofe akwu the same way, but from experience I discovered that stockfish makes it taste less than perfect so I would omit it (I don’t know why it tastes a lot better without okporoko to me).
Will you try not adding the stockfish and give your verdict? I want to know if it’s just my taste buds doing that?
I would imprison anyone who adds tomatoes to ofe akwu if I could. Or seize their cookers.
If you lived in Enugu the way I would beg you to let me have some of this would baffle you.
Maybe I should go and find something to eat. I have cashew nuts and avocado. At least it’s still food cry

Well I don't know who you are or where you grew up.

That there is Ofe in the name doesn't mean it's a soup.

And it's not an Igbo version of any soup/stew.

Ofe Akwụ is as original to the Igbo race as Nkwụ ọcha/nkwụ énú etal

I can understand you trying to write it that way to make people understand what it is but it's wrong.
You are very right.

Am not happy about how he address it as Igbo Version
Of Banga Soup.

Before we know what is Banga soup there are already ofe akwu

Very untrue.
It spoils the taste, big time.
It doesn’t even make culinary sense, adding tomatoes to ofe akwu . We can always improve knowledge sha, so please drop those tomatoes, specialist or not. And make your verdict then.
