prof2007:
The Federal Government has commissioned the operations of Dukia Gold and Precious Metals Project (DGPMP). The project is expected to enable Nigeria mine her gold reserves properly, trade responsibly and refine locally.

The Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, while performing the virtual commissioning of the project, said Nigeria has potential reserves of 200 million ounces of gold reserves. He disclosed that the Dukia Gold and Precious Metals Project has been under construction for 7 years and it was his pleasure to see that the project is ready to start operations.

According to a press statement issued by the Director of Press, Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel Development, Mr. Edwin Okpara, the Vice President said, “I believe the Dukia gold project will encourage the emergence of smaller-scale mining companies which, for the first time, would have a transparent and welcoming market for their mined gold and precious metals. This would create jobs and unleash the economic potential of mining communities.”

Going further, he said, ‘’The project will create primary employment for local artisanal miners and mining cooperatives across the solid minerals value chain. Off-take agreements between DGPMP and local mining communities and owners of recyclable gold will be a useful provider of jobs in our post COVID-19 economy.”

Osinbajo also commissioned the Dukia-Heritage Bank Gold and Precious Metals Buying Centers, which is part of valuable private sector collaboration. He opined that the buying center would provide a sustainable way for Nigerians to exchange their gold jewelry and other precious items for cash.

The vice president added, “This system of exchange not only helps to encourage a culture of recycling, but will also serve as a complementary source for the raw materials needed for the Dukia Gold & Precious Metals Refining Company.”

Osinbajo promised that the federal government would provide support and facilitate policies to ensure successful deployment, implementation, and sustainable operations of the Dukia gold project as well as continuous support of the mining sector.

The Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Mr. Olamilekan Adegbite, in his own statement, said the launch of Dukia-Heritage is a testament of the unwavering effort of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration to serve as a business-friendly regulator by providing the enabling environment for business to thrive.

Adegbite stated that the Buying Centre Initiative (BCI) would bring about efficiency and transparency to physical trading and transactions of mineral commodities in the country and also ensure that artisanal miners would receive the right pricing for their goods relative to illegal off takers. The minister pointed out that his ministry has licensed two gold refineries and created a conducive fiscal and regulatory enabling environment for them to thrive of which Dukia is one of them.

We need to start setting up local refineries too instead of destroying them.
The money should be remitted to the FG.
We need independent auditing of the oil companies paying royalties.

An ounce of gold according to (Forbes, 2019) is worth over $40,000. Our VP is telling us that we have over $40,000 * 200,000,000 buried underneath the Earth crust, with the last mineral geological survey being conducted in the 1950s during the colonial era.

I don't do partisan politics but these guys are delusional and formulate all sorts of cheap lies to deceive Nigerians.

Don't know about that, Not also a fan of Buhari. But Nigeria has alot of gold reserves, One of the reasons bandits teror significantly increased in zamfara state is because the government banned illegal minning. These northern states are rich in mineral resoures

Can you imagine, foreigners come into our country, collude with top leaders in a state and steal our resources?

It is crystal clear the position of the VP Osinbajo regarding our development as a nation. He is always hell-bent on ensuring the economy bounce back both during and post covid amidst oil price crash. The ESC report is another point of reference, the master plan will ensure a sustainable economic blueprint to realise economic recovery growth and plan goal.

I don't dispute that fact, we have gold in large amounts but no one truly knows "how much". When someone says 200 million ounces, it means a recent geological survey has been conducted and the amount has been well estimated. How can a nation be so rich and don't know how to harness it's wealth? We have loads of unemployed people that can be put to use. Nigeria can partner with a reputable company that's well versed in gold mining and do proper mineral exploration and start harnessing it's resources judiciously.

The number of gold reserves stuck underneath can be estimated. As much as we would need an official report to confirm those numbers,200000000 ounces of gold is not in any way an impossible number. According to Wikipedia, South Africa has 6000 tonnes of reserves(2018), which is over 200000000 ounces. Perhaps you are confusing gold reserves in terms of financial assets for Gold in terms of the mineral deposits.

An ounce of gold according to (Forbes, 2019) is worth over $40,000. Our VP is telling us that we have over $1,788 * 200,000,000 buried underneath the Earth crust, with the last mineral geological survey being conducted in the 1950s during the colonial era.

This is a very bad development if we do not have companies that would be making some nice jewelries and other products out of those gold. Because selling to these whites people, they gonna come back to sell the jeweleries to us double the price. Also if we have both companies mining and making jewelries out if it, that would be using one stone to kill to birds as we would provide more jobs for the youths and sell out to other countries as well.

Stop selling our natural resources and buying it back triple the size

Stop the ranting. Produce facts to counter him. He's not the mate (brain wise) of the best in your lineage.
Do you think he is the only one that has the facts and it means all the federal officials in the ministry - ministers, perm secs, civil servants (retired or existing) don't know what they are doing?
