A 62-year-old man who rapidly deteriorated with symptoms of Covid-19 and was placed on a ventilator in a hospital in France was left with an erection that lasted for four hours.

Doctors had to use needles to remove blood clots and relieve the man's condition.

The man had been in intensive care at the Centre Hospitaliser de Versailles in Le Chesnay for two weeks with a fever, dry cough and difficulty breathing.

While coronavirus is known to cause blood clots in up to a third of Covid-19 patients, this is believed to be the first case in which the clots developed in a patient’s penis.

The man, who is unnamed, had been in intensive care at the Centre Hospitaliser de Versailles in Le Chesnay for two weeks, initially experiencing the typical symptoms of a fever, dry cough and difficulty breathing.
