Ondo State government is currently on auto pilot as the state governor, Mr. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has refused to hand over to his deputy, Agboola Ajayi, despite being in isolation over his COVID-19 status.

Sources disclosed that inaccessibility to the governor in his isolation room in the Government House has been responsible for delay in payment of civil servants salaries in the state.

Principal officers who were to hold meeting with the governor to give him details of the allocation received for the month and how it was shared could not do so.

But a source said the governor didn’t have any special role to play in determining payment of salaries, disclosing that civil servants would begin to receive credit alert of their salaries beginning from Friday or Saturday (today).

Meanwhile, serious operations and services usually determined by the governor are currently put on hold due to the health condition of the governor.

Governor Akeredolu has refused to hand over to his deputy, saying that he would be working from home when he tested positive for COVID-19.

Akeredolu had said that the result of his test was asymptomatic therefore he would be working from isolation in the Government House.

This was greeted with criticism from the opposition which advised the governor should ignore the differences between him and his deputy and hand over to him(Agboola Ajayi) so he could face his health squarely.
But the governor turned down all the entreaties of the opposition.

However, there’s panic in the Government House following the sudden death of the leading health manager in the state on Thursday.

Although the family of the late Health Commissioner has denied that he didn’t die of complications from COVID-19, families and loyalists of the governor became apprehensive at the death of Dr. Wahab Adegbenro.

This is very tricky cos the governor has lost trust in his deputy and wouldn't be foolish to hand over temporarily to him to act while he attends to his health. The state workers cannot be paid for now as a result. I'll leave this for the constitution to advise what next. If Ondo workers feel aggrieved, they can meet up their governor at the isolation centre for further action
