This show makes me ashamed.

If you watch Food channel, Junior Chopped especially or Kids Baking Championship, you'll see how young kids in America are competing for meaningful things.

Some competing to add to their college fund or to open their own restaurants. Some I saw on the show, already had catering businesses.

I believe there are people with ideas for better shows but they lack sponsors.

No one has been able to tell me how this show benefits Nigerian youths since it's not a Children show.
I get your point but even America has many useless shows too. Keeping up with the Kardashians is arguably worse. They have their own Big Brother too.

How many people watch cowbell mathematics show in Nigeria?
Rubbish like this will always sell more.

The people are the government. Government alone cannot create jobs and citizens empowerment. A country that waits for the government to do everything for them will never develop.

I hope Nigerian youths realize that they are the ones contributing and sending money for these shows? Apart from some sponsorship, the bulk of that N85M (and the extra N100M or more profit for the show organizers) is coming from your pocket? Not to talk of all the DSTV subscriptions.

This starts looking like real money... the type that can build factories to hire youths, or sponsor a presidential candidate that will work for betterment of youths.

Youths should stop complaining about "bad leaders" and look inwards at themselves for misplaced priorities.

With the countdown to the season five premiere of Africa’s popular reality TV show, Big Brother Naija officially on, MultiChoice Nigeria has revealed that this season’s winner will walk away with a whopping N85m grand prize!

The grand prize which includes a N30m cash prize, makes this season’s winnings the biggest since its debut back in 2006 and highest prize for reality TV show on the continent!

Chief Executive Officer, MultiChoice Nigeria, John Ugbe said: “The fifth season of BBNaija marks a major milestone in the reality TV series. We are making this season significant by not only increasing the winnings, but by also implementing other creative and innovative ways to ensure the show lives up to the premium entertainment especially during the current pandemic.”

The breakdown of the grand prize for BBNaija season five includes: a N30m cash prize; a two-bedroom apartment courtesy Revolution Plus; a top of the range SUV from Nigerian automaker, Innoson Motors; a trip to Dublin courtesy Guinness; home appliances courtesy Scanfrost; a trip to Dubai packaged by Travelbeta; a year’s supply of Indomie noodles, Munch it and Colgate toothpaste; a year’s supply of Pepsi, a branded chiller and a trip to watch the UEFA Champions League finale; and a brand new Oppo mobile smartphone.

Meanwhile, MultiChoice will in the coming days reveal other surprises for viewers and fans of the show.

BBNaija season 5 will be broadcast live and 24/7 on DStv channel 198 and GOtv Max and Jolli packages on channel 29. DStv viewers can also follow the drama this season with the DStv Now app on a smartphone, tablet or laptop.

DStv customers who would like to opt out of viewing the show can do so by sending “Smart card number [space] BBOUT” to 30333. While GOtv customers can do same by sending “IUC Number [space] BBOUT” to 30333. Additionally, customers can activate the parental control option on their DStv and GOtv decoders for viewers younger than 18 years.

In order not to miss a moment of the entertainment on BBNaija season 5, fans are encouraged to sign up on DStv today or get GOtv Max or Jolli and download the MyDStv and MyGOtv apps from the app store for more self-service options.

Betway is the Headline sponsor of BBNaija season 5 and the Gold sponsor is Guinness.

Given the prevalence of the COVID-19 pandemic, MultiChoice Nigeria has assured viewers that global best practices, precautions and preventive measures will be followed throughout the show.

What is this one saying?

Even abroad, these type of programs get more prize money than so-called Stem programs. Survivor, Big Brother, AGOT are all entertainment shows with high prize money. Footballers get paid more than professors or chess grandmaster. Learn to understand economics.

Who wants to be a millionaire that added value to citizens was discontinued and with every season, a program with no value at all grows as well as it's cash prize and other rewards. But then, we actually empower and encourage these programs by voting and viewing and discussing participants on SM's. If over 2mil members on NL who I believe are part of the sensible few in Nigeria do not vote and also lobby friends and families not to, just maybe we will reduce the effect of this manace in the country. Other countries who others may claim have this program too but the question is what's the value system in these countries? Not saying we shouldn't do reality tv but five years down the line toeing this part, Nigeria will become an endangered species as we are already in an ENTANGLEMENT

Even though I am not such a big fan, dstv has clearly done well by given the options of opting out or parental control of the show. If people still run to come and complain how immoral or useless the show is, then it means they are watching. Don't watch if it's not your cup of tea...simples!

What a waste. All these companies could easily solve many of Nigeria's issues and make profits in return; education, health, sports, jobs, housing etc.

Imagine DSTV or Guinness built their own mini estate and rented it out to people starting their first job, those early married etc. They will be getting rent. And years later they can even sell it.

Or Travelbeta and indomie offering internship or early entry level jobs remotely etc.

People complain about government but we the citizens and companies are the problem. These companies will get short term benefits from this big brother, whereas they can make long term benefits and impact society
