Rhoda Iliya: FG Can Not Afford ₦300 Billion N-Power Beneficiaries’ Demands by valentineuwakwe(m): 11:00pm On Jul 24, 2020
The Federal Government on Friday said N -Power beneficiaries were demanding a cumulative grant of N 300bn .
It , however , made it clear to the beneficiaries of the scheme that government cannot afford to make such amount available as grant.
The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs , Disaster Management and Social Development said it observed that there was a rally at the National Assembly on Thursday by some N -Power beneficiaries .

It said the rally later proceeded to the Federal Secretariat Complex in Abuja , as the protesters claimed to be representatives of the Federal Government’ s N - Power beneficiaries who were about to be exited.
The ministry’ s Deputy Director , Press, Rhoda Iliya, said in a statement issued in Abuja on Friday that the protesters requested the Federal Government to employ all the 500 ,000 N -Power beneficiaries as well as pay them a grant of N600 ,000 each .

She said , “ The ministry wishes to state that this demand was not part of the agreement of engagement they signed with the Federal Government, which clearly stipulated that they will be exited after two years.
“ Furthermore , the government cannot afford the N 300bn they were asking for as grant. ”
The ministry said it was noteworthy to state that the Federal Government had expended hundreds of billions on N - Power beneficiaries during the last four years.

It stated that the ministry was currently liaising with the Office of the Accountant- General of the Federation , the agency responsible for the payment of N- Power beneficiaries’ stipends, to ensure that any outstanding legitimate claim was settled.
It insisted that the Federal Government could not afford to continue to pay the exited N- Power beneficiaries stipends indefinitely, more so that the process of engagement of new beneficiaries had already commenced .

The ministry argued that even though it was not a lending agency , it was contacting other ministries , departments and agencies such as the Central Bank of Nigeria to see if the exited beneficiaries could key into their empowerment programmes.

You were employed and told you will exit in 24months.

1. What did you do with your money and time?
2. A good number had other jobs while others had spare time to do other things
3. Let's stop depending on the government for everything

It's greedy of those beneficiaries.

However, it pisses me off whenever I see that FG can't afford this or that..

Oliver Twist.

Government has given you free 30k monthly stipends but you don't want others to benefit.

Greedy people. 600k for what exactly? Don't you people know how to read agreements?

Buhari should just ignore them.

But she spent double that figure in two weeks feeding imaginary school children. The Npower volunteers should just prepare for a bigger protest. This government only reacts to violence.

The government promised them heaven and earth before and during the election period, they must be held accountable for every promise.

Sibrah:
The election promise covers both the current beneficiaries that are protesting and the incoming ones. Understand that.
You might want to Google up the facts so you update yourself. The government promised to give them jobs, that no single volunteer will return to the streets cheesy. Well, it was so sweet when they needed the votes, now the consequences of their unguarded statements is happening.

WHAT STOP NDDC AND OTHER STATE BODIES LIKE DESOPADEC, EDOSOPADEC etc FROM ESTABLISHING THEIR OWN NPOWER PROGRAMMES FOR YOUTH IN THE NIGER DELTA REGION.

Everything should not be left in the hands of the federal government, state government and local government.

We need another NPOWER Programme that is managed by the state and local government.

All we hear is NO MONEY ! NO MONEY ! but public officers are stealing this money using fictitious contract.

Even though government is trying to use npower to bridge unemployment gap, they need to be creative with it.
These people teach in schools that already have teachers, those that do the agro only goes to work to gist and take selfies.
They need to make it a Programme that can fund itself to some extent.
