Alleged money laundering: Court orders Diezani to surrender self for trial

The Federal High Court, Abuja, on Friday, ordered former Minister of Petroleum, Diezani Alison-Madueke, to appear before it and answer to a money laundering charge filed against her by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The judge, Ijeoma Ojukwu, gave the order in a ruling on an ex-parte motion marked: FHC/ABJ/CR/208/2018 brought by the EFCC’s lawyer, Faruk Abdallah.

Ojukwu ordered the issuance of summons on Mrs Alison-Madueke for her to be arraigned on the charge.

The EFCC had accused the former minister of fleeing the country for the United Kingdom (UK) in order to escape justice.

The judge, who ordered that the court’s summons be published on the website of the anti-corruption agency and a national daily in a conspicuous manner, said the development would make it easier for Mrs Alison-Madueke to be aware of the invitation.

Earlier, Mr Abdallah, while arguing the motion, noted that since Mrs Alison-Madueke allegedly fled the country, it was difficult to get her back to respond to the various criminal allegations against her.

He said there was a need for a court’s summons or arrest warrant to compel her appearance in court.

The lawyer, in a document filed along with the motion ex-parte, said the Commission sought to question Mrs Alison-Madueke, without success, in relation to many allegations against her, including “her role as the Minister of Petroleum Resources and her role in the award of Strategic Alliance Agreement (SAA) to Septa Energy Limited, Atlantic Energy Drilling Concept Limited and Atlantic Energy Brass Development Limited by NNPC.

He said it also wanted Mrs Alison-Madueke to respond to questions about “her role in the chartering of private jets by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and Ministry of Petroleum Resources and her role in the award of contracts by NNPC to Marine and Logistics Services Limited.”

Mr Abdallah said the agency was investigating Mrs Alison-Madueke’s business relationships with Donald Amamgbo, Afam Nwokedi, lkpea Leemon, Olatimbo Bukola Ayinde, Benedict Peters, Christopher Aire, Harcourt Adukeh, Julian Osula, Dauda Lawal, Nnamdi Okonkwo, Leno Laithan, Sahara Energy Group and Midwestern Oil Limited.

He added that Mrs Alison-Madueke was also required to clear air on “her role in financing the 2015 general elections, particularly the money that were warehoused at Fidelity Bank Plc in 2015 prior to the elections.”

He said it equally wanted the ex-minister to speak on several items, documents and jewelleries recovered from her house at No: 10, Chiluba Close, off Jose Marti Street, Asokoro, Abuja, and some identified property that were linked to her in Nigeria, UK, United States of America (USA), United Arab Emirate (UAE) and South Africa.

The judge then adjourned the matter till October 28 for Mrs Alison-Madueke to attend court for the purpose of her arraignment on the pending money laundering charge.

not sure she'll come back sha. I wonder when all these monumental corruption going on in Nigeria will stop cause the current government too is just shouting up and down it's now clearer to the good people of Nigeria(not the ones that have been blinded by politics) that PDP, APC and the rest are the same. As it stands now, no hope so my advice for everyone is to fight and pray for yourself rather than hoping for what can't materialize.

Xpol is here again

None of them deem it fit to question Baru on awarding unofficial contracts

The grasscutter contractor (Babachir Lawal) is still walking freely even campaigned for Buhari shocked shocked shocked

None have questioned Tinubu on his role on the 2 bullion vans at his resident

Despite all the overwhelming evidences on Theodore Orji, he's still walking free

Orji Uzor Kanu that was arrested was freed!

In a sane clime people like Okorocha will be behind bars for putting the lives of people at risk with his acidic rain contracts but in Nigeria, it's a different ball game!

Even Magu is still there, they are just dragging his trial!

No one even invited Ganduje for questioning after witnessing the huge bribe he collected undecided

Mr. Baba-Inna stole N2.5B from Aisha Buhari! No one has invited her to explain how she got such monies, what is her source of income How much is her profit

Yet the police are arresting Yahoo boys upandan! (Not that I am against it but what about these yahoos in government)

All these and many more are in their sokoto, but they want to go and solve the one in Sokoto undecided

If someone genuinely stole N1Billion and he is asked to spend N1million every month, it will take him 83 years & 4months to finish it. ANALYSIS:
12 Months = 12M
10 Years. = 120M
20 Years. = 240M
40 Years. = 480M

I think that judge no well, how can you order the citizen of another country back to a foreign country. Someone should educate the judge that Dizeani is no more a citizen of Nigeria.
And besides who takes our orders seriously anyway
