Reasons To Make You Fall Hopelessly In Love With Honey. by TigerFoods: 11:16am On Aug 03, 2020
Obsessed with honey as we are? Well, you’ve been missing out a great deal if your answer is no. Honey contains a wide range of nutritional and medicinal value, and it does not expire. They say, “Honey stored in sealed containers can remain stable for decades and even centuries!” That’s right! The reason for the magical longevity of honey lies in its biological makeup. Because of the sugar content and low pH of honey, as well as the bees’ honey-making process, organisms that can spoil food won’t survive in honey. But honey has to be natural and sealed properly to enjoy its long lifespan. You already know that we are advocates for a healthy lifestyle, so it excites us that there are way too many reasons to love Honey. If you haven’t been exploring the wonders of honey, we suggest you do so after getting to know of its goodness. Let’s gist.

Honey relieves cough
Our moms were right, after all, honey is a natural relief for sore throats, coughs, and other throat infections. It is almost as effective as most over-the-counter drugs; the natural sweetener not only soothes throats but also kills certain bacteria that cause infection. We know how worrisome it can be when our kids and loved ones cough consistently and deprive us of that beauty sleep we so much desire after a stressful day. Don’t worry we are here to make that worry go away; Add 2 teaspoons of honey to a warm glass of milk or water before bedtime to safely relieve your child of cough, that way you can get back that beauty sleep you deserve.

Moisturizes the Skin
Honey is your skin’s best friend because it’s a natural humectant, which means it attracts and retains moisture. Its properties make it ideal as a do-it-yourself ingredient for skincare routine thereby helping you save money. To stay moisturized, mix honey, milk, and avocado into a small bowl until a smooth paste is formed, then use a clean foundation brush to apply on dry skin and leave it to sit for 10 minutes. Rinse with warm water. For best results, apply twice.

Extends Shelf Life
One of the reasons we love homemade cakes, cookies and bread is because of the moist, sweet and fresh taste it gives especially when they are freshly baked. It can be worrisome when freshly baked food turns bad after a day or two. That’s really worrisome if you ask us. Nevertheless, we can’t deny the delicious flavour and perfect touch of honey in our favourite pastries. Did you know that honey’s antimicrobial properties can help extend the shelf life of cookies, bread and cakes? Guess not! According to research, honey has a high acid content that inhibits mould growth in baked foods hence making them to last longer.

Natural sweetener
When you brew a cup of hot tea or coffee, do you reach for honey or sugar? If you have been using sugar it’s time to reconsider having a healthier option like Honey. Its journey is as natural as it gets, it adds the perfect amount of sweetness to any beverage, it also imparts unique flavour while balancing and enhancing other ingredients, making it an ideal ingredient for everything from your most complex cocktails to simple drinks, such as tea/coffee.

Erases dark circle
Our eyes are the window to our soul, sadly the appearance of dark circles make us look tired and worried! Honey has antioxidants and essential nutrients that help to protect the skin and get rid of those ugly dark circles. Have you ever wondered how to get rid of dark circles under the eye? Well, it might interest you to know that honey improves blood circulation which in turn, helps to lighten the dark circles under the eye. Simply apply honey to a clean face, allow it to sit for 15 minutes, and rinse.

Treats Wounds and Burns
This is an interesting fact, who would have thought that honey helps to heal wounds? Honey is made up of mostly glucose and fructose that absorb water if applied on wounds. It helps promote healing, making it a natural first-aid cure for wounds, burns, and cuts. Honey’s antiseptic properties inhibit the growth of certain bacteria and help keep external wounds free from infection. It helps reduce swelling, pain, and even scarring as it works as an anti-inflammatory as well.

Besides helping with your health, honey can be used for skin and hair care. It’s great as an overnight lip mask, hair conditioner, or even to combat itchy skin from dry air or mosquito bites.

We bet you are already feeling an inclination towards this golden, sweet treat. The list of what you can do with it is just endless. You can add what makes you obsessed with Honey in the comment section. We can’t wait to hear from you. That being said, the holiday is a long one, while making merry explore the goodness of Honey.

A joyful Eid-El-Kabir to you all.
