Tiv Youth Council World Wide Felicitates with Nigerian Youth on the occasion of the International youth Day.

We write to heartily felicitate with youth, the world over and Nigerian youth in particular on this years occasion of the International Youth Day Celebration.

The theme of this year's International Youth Day 2020, “Youth Engagement for Global Action” seeks to highlight the ways in which the engagement of young people at the local, national and global levels is enriching national and multilateral institutions and processes, as well as draw lessons on how their representation and engagement in formal institutional politics can be significantly enhanced.

The role of the youth in the socio-political development of Nigeria cannot be over emphasized. This day calls for a reflection and reevaluation of the role of the youth in nation building and the elimination of impediments that have prevented Youth from taking their rightful place in Nation Building.

In Nigeria, the signing of the #Nottooyoung to run bill in to law by President Muhammadu Buhari signaled the removal of age barrier which precluded Nigerian youth from aspiring to occupy certain elective positions. The vibrancy, articulation and agility of the youth is important in leadership. Mr president should keep to his promise to hand over Power to the youth in 2023 which he made on the day of signing the bill into law.

The Nigerian youth must be consciously committed to building a greater Nigeria for generations yet unborn.

Today, insecurity is the greatest challenge facing our country. Without security there can be no meaningfully development. The youth have a great role to play if properly engaged by authorities at the Federal, state and community levels. The Nigerian youth should contribute to Nation building by helping the security agencies with intelligence to burst the criminals in their communities.

The Nigerian youth must be meaningfully engaged to prevent them from engaging unwholesome activities. We commend Mr president for setting up the Nigeria Youth Investment Fund domiciled in the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development. This will provide finances to support initiatives by youth.

The Nigerian Youth must also take advantage of the Agricultural revolution of the Federal government to engage in farming activities in other to be meaningfully engaged. We appeal to Mr president to make the terms and conditions for accessing agricultural loans youth friendly. This will encourage most Young Nigerians to take advantage of the anchor borrowers schemes of the Federal government.

Skills acquisition and entrepreneurship should be included in the curriculum of our schools to further equip the Nigerian youth and make them self employed at this time of scarcity of white collar jobs.

We call on Mr president to look into the issue of high cost of campaigns. Often times youth who aspire to lead are unable to prosecute the campaign and purchase forms for the various positions because of the exorbitant cost of the forms.

We appreciate Mr president for his social involvement program. The Npower component has greatly engaged a larger number of youth even as we appeal for an expansion of such initiatives.

We call on the Federal Ministry of youth and sports and other sister MDA's and the National Youth Council of Nigeria to continue to engage the youth meaningfully insisting on those Values and morals that mould a patriotic Youth.
