Evelyn wanted a job so bad she did everything right, yet, she just couldn’t land even an interview invite. In her country, unemployment and underemployment figures were at a peak and she did all to make herself stand out as a great candidate, yet, her effort did not yield any result.

This went on for a long time, until, one day, she decided to reach out to a former school mate who had some connections in another industry, and after an evaluation exercise, Evelyn finally landed a job. She was ecstatic and wanted to prove to everyone, herself, included, that she had all it takes to succeed in life.

However, nine months down the line, Evelyn became tired of her job. She grew accustomed to excelling on her tasks and earning the respect of her colleagues. On some days, she would push herself so hard, just to get out of bed to prepare for work.

She started to question herself, wondering why she did not feel that fire that burnt brightly within her when she was first informed that she had landed a job.

Evelyn spoke to one of our consultants about why she felt the way she did. It was later found that she initially wanted a job so much, in order to pay her bills. The fact that she got a job in an industry that is different from hers, even made her situation more complicated.

A lot of times, some professionals get carried away with the promise of a lucrative job and forget that they should have purpose while they work. If not, they end up without any form of fulfillment.

Yes, money is a great motivator. However, being able to pinpoint something else as the major reason or factor that drives one, will improve his/her experience.

Before or after you land a job, you should, try to set purposeful goals for yourself, using your job as a backdrop. Something else has to keep you going apart from earning a check every month.
