Please what successful coup happened that the people did not jubilate only to regret later as their rights to determine how they are governed is stripped away, while intellectuals and pseudo-intellectuals are liquidated to forestall any challenge to the coupists?

Nice coup. This is exactly what will still happen again in Nigeria. The greedy politicians are just looting and relooting us without fear of the unknown.

Abacha was a politician, abi?
Babangida also?
And Abdusalami? Or even Obasanjo and Buhari as military dictators?
None of them was a looter? All of them worked to make the economy better with jobs for everyone based on appropriate education for all? Is that it

They cited insecurity and corruption as the reason behind the 2012 coup in Mali, and 8 years later they’re still battling insecurity and corruption in the same Nation. What is wrong with Mother Africa?

Military coup again in Nigeria, after what we went through the at the hands of the military?
It's only a mad man that expects a different outcome from the same action.

Don't mind the anarchists. We barely survived IBB and Abacha, and someone is wishing for the military to come back. They just want the destruction of Nigeria, not realising that themselves, their families and their tribe might not survive the destruction.

Hard men them.Coup is no longer desirable but the power-desperate mindset of many an African leader even under democracy tends to make it a welcome idea.

Guess it's the same UN that stood idle while most African nations are engulf in needless political crisis because of selfish & wicked leaders?

sensible write up, the UN and other world power always stand idle, and do nothing when oppression, Nepotism and vagrant disrespect for the Rule of Law is been done. Nigeria is a typical example, UN knew the election was rigged, yet nothing was done. They also know about the constant killing of Christians in southern Kaduna, yet they keep mute. The only difference between the citizens of Nigeria and the rest of Africa is that we are cowards, but in other countries, the citizens don't take nonsense for too long, they react and enforce change.

is coup was that was Russia did in Ukraine? Or what China is doing to its Muslim minority?

I don't understand the question, I think there's a typo in it. But what I'm saying is, any country that topples it's own government becomes headless and invariably invites external forces to save the citizens from anarchy. In the western world, there are steps to impeach a leader. If the use of force is allowed, then we're heading back to the pre-civilization days when the physically strongest leads till a more powerful person emerges and overthrows him forcefully because there will never be a government without enemies and you can't call for the rule of law when you came into power forcefully yourself. In summary, coups are archaic and never really yields positive results other than setting a terrible precedence. Africa seriously needs to move beyond that.

Was it not the softness of democratic rule that brought about Boko Haram, ISWAP, Alquaeda, Tuareg rebels into that country. I feel for the soldiers and the people. They feel that their country will not be under occupation of terrorist had it being that the military was the Head of State.
Libya came under terrorist siege when democratic rule began. The same UN were the ones that wanted Gadaffi to dialogue with terrorists but he instead said no and scourged them with scorpion's cruelty. Gaddafi's reaction towards the terrorists who are the citizens of Libya was what led to his overthrow by NATO, UN and US forces.

At least you can still criticise the civilian government and talk about their corruption freely, under military, they will be looting us dry and you can't make a loud public complaint about it without getting Hani Fawehinmi's treatment.
Please let's not desire the return of military, they are absolutely worse than civilian, in corruption, highhandedness and nepotism.

If you don't understand, check what IBB and Abacha did to Nigeria. Today we have more LGA area in each of Jigawa state and Kano than Lagos why Lagos'LGA hasn't changed over the years because that's the way Abacha wanted it. 22 years after his death, we are still recovering part of his stolen money, yet some were hoping him, calling him the best president while he was looting us dry. He stopped paying the RUSSIAN working on Ajaokuta Iron and Steel Industry but preferred to take the money outside to hide for his family to the point his wife said they can't be as poor as Dangote. These are just an infintestimal analysis of the downside of military intervention.

the only problem is a certain tribe has taken over the military. They know we would fall back to the military when democracy is messed up. They are strengthening all lose ends. They are wise. They are smart they are politicians. They plan for the future.
Only division can help us.
