Nice story OP. But I will advise you reach out to your friend Friday and help him in whatever way you can. Maybe there's a reason you met him again after all those years. My two cents.
Nice talk.

Friday was my class mate from primary 3-6. Coincidentally, he lived in the same area with me. Though his house was a little bit far from mine but it was trekable. Friday's aunty just brought him from the village to the city newly that was how he was registered in our school so he could acquire formal education. Friday was older than us all in the class with at least 4 years. I remember the first time I saw pubic hair was the day Friday and I went out to ease ourselves during break session. As my eyes turned towards Friday's pipipi I saw hair all over the place and out of shock and surprised, I asked him what was that and he just replied that with time I will get to understand. Long story made short. We left primary school same year but Friday and I were no longer friends with reasons which I will give later. when I was in JSS1, Friday had already started working with a bus driver as a conductor. We hardly see him in the area because of his new job. he goes out very early and closes very late at night. The day I stop by at his aunt's house to check on him as old friend I was told that he no longer stays with her, he's chosing quick money over his future and that he now associate with bad friends. For close to 10 years me and Friday never saw each other. I had already forgotten if I ever met or knew anyone like him. I had finished my secondary school, gained admission to UNIBEN faculty of education. in my 3rd year in sch I was posted to Oko prison in Benin City to teach in the prison adult education center. One beautiful morning as I was walking majestically to the literacy center. I saw a young man with handcuff in his hand and was being ordered around by the prison warder. when I turned to look at his face, behold it was my old friend Friday. When he saw me, he bowed his head in shame. I called his name but he shamefully refused to answer. like a blink of an eye, he was escorted away by the prison warder. when I got to my class I couldn't concentrate for some minute. I was just wondering what on Earth could possibly be the reason why he was in prison? Then I remembered some of his life style during the short period we were friends then I was no longer surprised that Friday finally landed in prison.
1. Back then in primary school, one day he asked me to follow him to where they sale buns, eggroll etc. when we got there, he just pointed to the headmaster's office from a distance that the head master asked him to come buy 2 egg rolls that when he's less busy he will send someone to bring the money. the gullible seller just gave Friday 2 egg rolls. when we left he gave me 1 and he ate the other. That was when I knew Friday deceived the man. But what to do? if I dare report Friday it means I'm in for a big trouble.
2. That buns seller wasn't the only 1 Friday deceived. That was how he was busy visiting different shops where they sell things deceiving them in the name of the head master and head mistress. Friday was also bringing huge amount to sch back then. I believed he was stealing from his aunt's provision shop because he was the one managing the shop after school. Of all his activities in primary school, the 1 that really shocked me most was the day we finished our promotion exam to primary 5. Friday asked me to wait for him that he wants to see the class teacher. I didn't know his intention but I had to obey. when all the pupils had left remaining me, Friday and the teacher, then Friday went to meet the class teacher telling her that he didn't perform well in the exam and that the teacher should promote him that he was ready to pay the teacher if she agrees. The class teacher was really mad at Friday. She started shouting and insulting my friend. he walked Friday out of her sight. Friday would have really influenced me negatively if not for the timely intervention of my parents that adviced me to stop associating with him because of some behavior he was exibiting. I wanted to use the advantage of the fact that I was working there temporarily to plead with some of the prison warders who were my friends to give me the opportunity to see him so we could talk one on one even if it's just 10 minute. But then, I couldn't remember his surename. hence identifying him from other Fridays in the prison wasn't going to be an easy task. Only God knows what actually led Friday to prison and my prayer for Friday is for God to intervene, show him Mercy and give him a second chance.

Even now, i will advice u to bqck off. Dont associate with him

He can put u in trouble. He can send people to u who will force u to bring something contraband to prison for him. If u are caught, na gobe, trouble for u

The guy seems to be a career criminal. He has chosen his path in life. Until he retires or hangs his boots, no one can help him

Take it from me. I know what i am saying

Friday trying to pay the teacher to influence his grades shows that he was really interested in education and success..

He was doing that to escape the shame of repeating the same class when he's even older than all his classmates.

Forget it, people with such character care less about education and success, all they care about is money from ant source.

Friday mischievously stole buns and as a child probably had to work a little extra to fund his living. You had none of that, never stole? Went to school because someone could afford to send you; basically lived a more buttered life than Friday.

And that somehow justifies his being in prison?

No not at all. I'm just wondering what could be the reason y Friday was imprisoned. not because he stole buns years back. Friday had high criminal tendency as a young boy. many things he did that i didn't mention because of time but in all, I never expected him to grow up as a man with those habits. But on a second thought I'm not saying it was as a result of his anticidents in primary school that led him to the prison. My point here is that if it was crime that brought took him to prison, then I won't be surprised at all.

you're just blabbing just to make nonsense points and to make your self look good. Some people did worse than Friday when they were small and they never turned out bad..

Let's face it, you're using his past ( juvenile delinquency or what is it called) to judge him and using his situation to justify yourself.. a typical Africa behavior!..
U never can tell what brought him to that prison, so stop nonsense assumptions. And what lesson are you trying to show us in this nonsense post?

If Friday was old enough to take decision ( I mean assuming he's mature) when u met him or u people were in let's say higher institution and he turned out this way, we would have said he' deserved what came to him...

And no dey too happy cos u never knw wetin fit happen to u too.. naso life be.. And e never finish for Friday..
Abi u one tell me say u no thief when u young and play dubious role in any way? Rubbish..

I am not justifying bad behavior or whatever , but this kind thing na nonsense..I can see u are jumping on every mentions that praise u... well, continue ,..
Only a cretin would see sense in that your posts.. and dem kuku full nairaland wey go dey give u thumb up..

Dont bother to respond cos I will split fire on you ...

Instead of you to try to help you're here making mess of your nigha. As if you no chop the egg roll...

Your type sabi mock but no fit help.. u even said it's stressful to find his name in the ward Abi wetin u dey talk self? Which kind human be are you self...

Looking at your post history, you have absolutely nothing useful to contribute to intellectual discourse.

Better stick to Romance section. By the way, from the way you write.... maybe you're afraid of ending up like Friday grin

PS - to those that aren't bright enough to understand...

I disbelieve a lot of the stories posted here, but the point here is this - a poor foundation can lead to a life of crime & misery. Adults should bring up their kids the right way, kids can learn... etc.

I personally know a young guy who violently stabbed a lady to death. I always thank my stars that I didn't make the same mistake of killing someone when I lost my temper in the past.

I NEVER feel I am better than him... i always think " this could have been me"
