He thought about quitting his job in order to care for them, but the then Senate Majority leader persuaded him not to. Biden was then sworn into office from his son’s bedside.

8. Biden remarried in 1977, after his first wife death to Jill Tracy Jacobs, an English teacher. His son Beau once joked in his speech at the Democratic National Convention that they all married her. Biden had another child named Ashley with Jill Jacobs. He is Grandfather to four grandchildren.

9. If he wins the US Presidency come November 2020. He would be the oldest US President at 78. Former US President Reagan who became elected at the age of 71 presently holds that record.

10. In 1972, at 29, he defeated incumbent Republican Senator Cale Boggs, becoming the fifth-youngest person ever elected to the U.S. Senate.
