Never negotiate with police on the road if you know you haven't committed any crime. Choose to follow them to the station. And most importantly, call at least 2 people before you agree to go with them, a family member and a lawyer or clergy. Make that call in their presence so they won't play any si.lly pranks. It always work!

You forgot this is an highway. If the state you reside in, it is okay. Bro how you going to call someone to come to where you are quickly when your in another state.. He did what he had to do to go,now its left for him to follow up the issues and hopefully they get them.

If he had a secret video camera on his phone. He would have quickly turn it on. Hopefully it's on selfie mood. Just catch one face when he is operating your phone. That's enough.

Please don't mind my English..

I will like to keep my identity because of my safety, I am from Oyo state (Ibadan) and i am having my NYSC service in Asaba.

I got a call last week Friday around 11:43am from my PPA principal asking me why i haven't report and i told her that i will be in Asaba this weekend.

I did fulfil my promise by going this Saturday (5 sept) to cut the story short when we reach Ore Benin road (6pm), this husky black Mopol officer stop our Toyota Siena car (public transport), he ask us to get down and he approach me remove your ear phone mister man in which i did and ask me what do i do for living? and i answered with a friendly smile sir Am a youth corps, then he reply me "Really" where is your ID card and i show him and he jokingly reply me u be Yoruba boy and i said yes Sir.

Then he ask for my phone, that's when i knew something is not okay, I actually gave him my phone and he kept on searching through my what'sapp message, Inbox and pic gallery. The next thing i will hear is Mr man move to that side (my heartbeat was already running madly) he ask me why can i have 85k in my account, Why am i using 2 what'sapp account. The next thing he started calling me names you this lazy yahoo boys, god catch u today, krokor dey ur yansh this time.

I beg him to let me go that am not a yahoo boy but all my plead fall into zero then he start to threaten me that he will hand me over to EFCC then he remove his handcuff and I plead to him multiple times then his colleagues came to me which i thought he want to help me beg him only for him to say "oh boy u sef do normal and water him flower" to my surprise one those boys selling gala and drinks came to us and brought out a POS machine and this stupid Mopol force me to transfer 80k then he release me but the strange thing is that these police officers are not with their tags to reveal their names and numbers and they kept calling eachother in nicknames like scorpion, Rambo they only wear that Mopol polo shirt and carry AK 47 rifles.

The painful part of my ordeal is that the 85k is my only savings.....I know that the Lord am serving will surely punish them....Police is not your friend o
Sorry about your ordeal. It is a pity we all will still keep mute on this demoralizing attitude of NPF.
Next time, never leave text message from your bank stating your balance clearly.
The POS used to debit your account should have a name on it. Keep that details as make a formal complaint.
Complain to your NYSC state coordinate office, the closest Nigerian Army barracks or office and also tweet to the official handle of NPF. You may tag ruggedman on tweet and state your ordeal. If he sees your tweet wallahi he would tag NPF on Twitter to come to your aid.
I sincerely hope this won't be swept under the carpet and the matter investigated to bring the culprits to book as innocent citizens aren't lucky to have lost their lives even after complying to the barbaric and lawless officers of the law who engage in this unholy and unconstitutional act.

They will never stop at any check point. During the pandemic full lock down when there was no movement, my neighbor needed to travel from Abuja to Edo state for his mother's burial. They just hired a police escort to and fro. The rest was history.

That money is your sweat and if you need it back you know what to do.

Mind you the PoS operator will produce the money and produce the police guys whether they are fake or not.

Thank God some one has finally opened a thread on this! i was also a victim similar to this OP right here but mine happened at iyana oba lagos state. there were about Four police officers Who stopped my Uber vehicle and told me i was a yahoo boy i pleaded profusely to all of them but it fell into deaf ears! they took me to a yellow bus waiting and asked me to sit .when i entered i saw a guy who was also taken by them and they said he was also guilty of the crime ..this guy was already in tears while i maintained calmness to know what they were about to do, next thing they started checking my whatsapp and gallery. after the search they could only find pics of foriegn girls from my whatsapp forums downloaded in my fone and they claimed i was a yahoo guy or cultist .any ways they threatened to take me away and then they saw my acct balance with 100k in it i pleaded with them that the.money was meant for my business so they took me to a near by POS shop inspite of all my pleas and withdrew all my life savings of 100k then mocked me and asked if i have change left to go home..it was a horrible experience and i cant bear it but share to every one here of how wicked those lout and thiefs called Sarz or police are! im still in pain with what those guys did and my God will punish all of them![/quote]

Relax, bro! Maybe he wasn’t stupid as you have alluded. Truth is, right now I m tempted to call you the same thing you called him but I won’t.

This was a highway, my friend. What if those guys were not real policemen? What if they were armed robbers in disguise? Or even kidnappers?

Or didn’t you read where the guy you hastily called stupid said those guys had no name tags or any other form of identification?

Wasn’t that enough sign to not just play smart but to play safe, being conscious of the fact those guys could be more than the appearance they were putting up?

Again I ask- What if they were kidnappers? What if they were armed robbers?

I’m sure your ”intelligent” mind did not factor all that in, but thank God the “stupid” mind of the poster did.

You wanted the guy to follow them to go to the police station or efcc?

Meanwhile, did it occur to you that it’s possible the station and efcc they were referring to was their den where they will not only take his money, but his phone, and other valuables that were with him?

And maybe even start demanding for ransom before his release. Or maybe even maim or kill him.

But according to you, he was stupid to have at least considered such possibility and decided to play safe.

If this was happening in the city or in a town, yes, one would advise that he put up some level of resistance.

But in a highway, all alone, because the driver and the passengers will obviously leave him, and in the hands of men whose identity and motive are questionable, dude, that’s not being stupid. That’s being freaking smart.

So at the end of the day, it seems you might just be the one who is stupid and not the guy.

But like I said earlier on, I will resist the temptation of giving you that tag like you did with the poster.

I'm not a bro..

I can bet with everything I have that those are real officers but they hid their identification on purpose as they too don't want to get into trouble as they know for a fact that their extortion is illegal and could get them locked up and lose their badge in the process. So even if they're trying to shake someone down to see if money can drop they're only hoping that their tactic can work but in the event they meet a mugu like OP, they smile to the bank. Do you think they didn't try to shake down alot of people that day? Do you think they succeeded with all of them? As I said earlier, it's all psychology. If the OP had shrugged and said he didn't mind going to the EFCC to explain himself, I bet you they would have backed down. That he said he's willing to go to EFCC doesn't mean he's following them anywhere. It's just using their own psychology back at them. The moment you start begging them, they know you're already as good as extorted. I'm talking from experience. Just lastnight, I was stopped by the police in by 1:30am in the early morning. They tried to shake me down and threatened to take me to the station
I shrugged and said I was completely fine by that but they have to tell me what crime I committed first. They said I broke lockdown rules, i told them to quote the lockdown rule I broke. Thry knew immediately they didn't get a mugu and let me go. 50kobo, they didn't see. I was even more at risk than someone in the highway that hour and I was in Iba junction. A female and alone.

The trick is being polite, firm and fearless. Even they too don't want to get into trouble and lose their meal ticket.

abuses ke? Bud u were running a circus to me all this while o, I thought you had more tricks to amuse me with. you read the situation the OP shared and all you could do was to call him fool, you never gave suggestion to help him, do u think you were making sense then or spilling some truth in that regard?

Telling me about fighting for a right in a situation where he has no help to run to, abi u skipped where he stated na highway dem stop am? Did he tell u his fellow passengers even made attempt to help? To pull a stand with some trigger happy men who could have done the worst to him knowing no be town or street dem dey.thank goodness other comments gave suggestions that could help him get his money back.

Like they say the best players in the world are not those on the pitch but those watching the match from their comfort zone, na dem go dey Yan "d guy suppose use him left play d ball, he for no dribble, oh d keeper na mumu why em dive go left ", while they can't do any better when you put them on the pitch.
