Elder0001:

But somebody writing jamb should own a phone even if it's small Nokia torch.
He's already through with secondary school and about to enter uni, why can't they purchase phone for him? I reiterate "even if it's Nokia torch".

Will you give them the money to buy it undecided. When they say a lot of Nigerians are living in poverty you will not hear.

Greetings to elders, I have so much respect for this forum as person they struggle with one isissue I say ma carryam come elders forum.

It all began last 2- weeks when my brother wanted to apply for his P-UTME exam. But to do so the school he applied for required him to change his course as his cut off mark for the course he applied before hasn't reached. This is necessary for him to be considered among those that will be shortlisted to Sit for exam.

We went to Jamb CBT to change his course and go ahead with the P-UTME registration. This is where The problems started unfolding. We Came to realize that he used my mum's number to open his jamb profile, and the sad thing is that they had stolen my mum's phone with that sim in it last two months. She lived for some weeks without phone before going ahead to buy a phone and a new sim.

So when the CBT guy told us that we will need that sim for change of course to be possible. We went to jamb office here in Kaduna and they confirmed the CBT guy statement. We went for the sim swap last monday but Mtn told us that since the sim pack wasn't available she will have to do a court affidavit. We got the affidavit instantly but there was a lot of que when we go back to the Mtn office.

We have to leave it till Tuesday, we went early morning when it was her turn for the swap she went ahead but one surprising thing is that the same sim that she bought and registered by herself 5- years ago turned out to be displaying a different person pix with details.

That's where real wahala start ooo, the Mtn agent told her that there is no way that sim swap will be done because it wasn't her pix in the profile. He told her that what actually happens was that the people she bought the sim from where just business men disguising themselves as Mtn agent, they are just after to sale their sim card in order to gain profit. They will offer you a registered sim as unregistered and take you through the process of registering as if that was the exact Time the registering is taking place.

At the end we trird other Mtn offices but the same answer was given to us the only way out was to look for the person whose pix is displaying to come by himself and do the swapping. This is a person my mum has never met in her entire life she don't even know him.

Remember that she was just a victim of a circumstance that's beyond her control and anybody can fall for it. I can't even comprehend how an innocent student will waste another year at home as result of a missing sim or number.

Pls I am begging on fellow elders in the house or anyone that has been in similar situation like this or know someone that has come across a similar problem and was able to solve it to pls help my brother out he has already wasted a year at home.

Pls help me out

Oga, I'm also having the same issue as the OP.

Does it mean that the line is gone forever, no solution at all?

i wish they will reconsider it.I even beg the manager in one of their office to keep the sim with him i will only contact him for the code he said no it can't happen

My sister also have the same problem, when we wanted to swap it we discoverd that the picture showed a guy, but we went to mtn head office to rectified it, then we continue the registration and later use the SIM for the otp needed. My advice is to go to mtn head office in that state along with court affidavit and explain to them, they will surely help you out
Re: JAMB: How A Lost Sim Has Put My Brother In Jeopardy by Psoul(m): 12:01pm On Sep 14
If not that this country is one kind of hole I don't understand, how could this be a serious problem that will almost cost the student much stress and even having to forfeit the exam.

You go to JAMB or even write them, explaining the circumstances surrounding the mobile number you used to register for your JAMB examination and why you want to change it.
This shouldn't be a very serious issue so long as you have gotten the affidavit.

It's getting messier here for poor and average citizens.

This story sound somehow Sha. Sometime around 2years ago, telecoms companies operating in Nigeria did instruct all its subscribers to come for sim update or risk being blocked, in which you would be credited a sum after doing it afterwards. Does it mean it wasn't carried out in your mum's state of residence abi she voluntarily didn't go for the update.

I use MTN line and I remember the queue I was in all through that morning.
sorry to say Sir,But i will gain nothing by just sitting down a type all this for no reason.

It's a simple matter. Simply send a text to the new owner narrating your predicament then follow up with a phone call.

You don't have to swap if he or she rejects the idea let the person simply help out with whatever codes that will be sent; more like some sort of collaboration to help your bro.
I don't know the kind of person the stranger is but if I were the one, I'd help sha.
But maybe trust issues might come up if you take my advice because the stranger might feel it's another scam format. No harm in trying.
Thanks alot Sir.But they haven't given out the Sim yet. They person in their database was the one that registered the sim even before she brought it

Yea... But If I can remember vividly, the process wasn't for everyone, its for only those that got the "Register your sim text message" cause I do make use of 2 different MTN lines and only one sim got the message which I did.... So probably his mum didn't get the text

try contacting Jamb head office either by phone calls or via social media, Twitter handle, explain to them if you can get a testament from MTN to support your claim it will be better.

don't give up at all, try every possible means. it will be resolved in Jesus name.

Something is wrong with our network providers, the SIM my sister has been using for over thirteen years, was stolen with phone, when she went for the retrieval, they told her that the picture used in registering the SIM is different from her, the same SIM she has retrieved several times.

Sometimes the mistakes comes from those registering the sim. When their camera refuses to pick the person's face, they either use theirs to register your sim, or they beg someone around to help them use their faces. I have seen this. So, my advice to anyone is to make sure they use their face if really they have a long-term use for the simcard and also you are not into crimes.

Go to the nearest Jamb Cbt centre, they don't even need your phone number for change of course.
They will change your course/institution when you pay #3.5k, which is #2.5k for remita payment, then 1k for miscellaneous.
You only send a code when registering at the initial stage.
All they will ask is your Jamb Regular No. and the preferred course you are changing to.
I sure say you never reach the Jamb Cbt Centre sef.
that is new process, dnt type out of ignorance

Hmmmmm, you should done welcome back instead, the process is simple, but don't know of MTN, for other networks, you will give like 7 numbers and the number will be thoroughly checked to know you are the real owner, and that's all, MTN don't need the person's profile to do welcome back, maybe the numbers your mum gave them does not correspond with what they have in their system, I have done welcome back like twice with Glo, and I have retrieved my numbers in those instances.
welcome back and sim swap na dsame process

This your case is normal na.
When i lost the sim i used to register for jamb i was still able to do change of institution.
That was about 2 years ago.
The important thing is the email, became they'll send all the necessary info to.your email.
The phine number isnt really important, unless to check result and that one can be done online.
That cbt center don't know how to do their work.
Why not try another cbt center?

I also felt nearly the same thing, mine was my date of birth but luckily enough I got it swapped.
Why should he give up?
He can make usw of the email used to register for jamb.
What they need is the profile code, which can be gotten from e-mail
