I know, but do people really need to travel to these places in the first place when they're comfortable in their home countries? I live in the US and I'm a proud US citizen as well as a proud Nigerian, and i know many Americans are least exposed when it comes to international travels. Many are more comfortable in their home country and even think of any country outside the US as a terrorist country - thats what ignorance has led many of them to think like.
So why shouldn't everyone be comfortable in their home countries without one threatening others with visa bans as if the visas mean they will be paying you afterwards - you end up spending when u arrive there anyways. Too many things are just overhyped in my opinion.

i am a Nigerian American too Sir but i don’t know how well travelled you are globally

there is a reason the chinese are paying as much as $50,000 to have their wives just give birth in the US

why Russians pay more

you know why ? the freedom that comes with the USA - because you live here you don’t know how rough it is elsewhere in terms of certain basics

the things we take for granted in the US are luxuries to Kings in other climes!

i won’t argue with you - if you don’t agree with me, plz buy a ticket and visit Saudi, Vietnam, Russia and Mexico and even UAE - run fowl of their basic laws and see if you will be given a fair hearing in their courts - i have been to those places and i know what i am talking about !

Do they really need to go to these countries to comfortably spend their money?
Those countries are the most developed on the planet.

These politicians have investments and roots there for a reason.

Buhari does not go to saudiarabia for health care, he goes to the UK.

Visa restrictions coming from a government who has undermined democracy in his country with impunity. A person who has said everything unpresidential to Africa as a continent and lay the ground work to rig the forthcoming US election. Someone that encourages his voters to vote twice in the US in blatant disregard to the US Constitution. No wonder legendary journalist - Woodward - drew a conclusion in his recently concluded book titled RAGE that he is the wrong man for the job. It's an insult and immoral for someone like that to handover punishment to people who act like him.

How does it feel, paying taxes on houses you can not access. Will you keep paying or get the house forfeited to Govt?.The house Oshiomhole ran to after the heat of APC primaries will no longer be accessible to him and family. He will be forced to sell it off and repatriating the money back home will be another herculean task. That is how the Western countries handle corrupt foreign countries stolen wealth or suspected espionage. A lot of Russians and Chinese with significant assets have their visas revoked too. Abramovich is going through the same tough process in UK after his visa extension was not approved.

So why are so many looted funds safe and secure in world bank? Abacha’s loot has been there for ages and it’s one of the most difficult loots to secure, if not for the help of other countries. Although, Switzerland is just one of the many countries where loots are safe. Corrupt proceeds are no longer safe in America or UK.

Looted funds are mostly stashed in those island countries.

Guy/Girl.
Banning someone from traveling to a particular country is not a punishment.

Freezing their assets in those country which is the reason for the violence in the first place
is the right punishment.

Any politician barred from traveling can still become more violent without any consequence.

You are still missing the entire point, so I will explain. Countries have sovereignty, so to punish by confiscating assets looks bad on the "punisher" and is usually reserved for the most egregious offenses. Other would-be election riggers would seek to liquidate assets.

Politicians are not countries.
Even countries assets gets seized.

Random international financial companies can freeze foreigners accounts
for filmsy reasons with little to no recourse for the victim. This is what I know for a fact.

But you want to argue that a government is afraid of freezing the accounts of enablers of violence.

These politicians aren't just "hiding" money overseas, they are mostly investing it in to
generate more returns.

Oh, im from both places but know this place more. From any international airport in fatherland, I dont know how to find anywhere else in the country, not even fathers houses nor mine, not without some guidance from someone that knows the place.
The more reason I joined nairaland - to learn more about my fatherland from experienced folks like you. I cant live in a place I dont even know how to get around in. It will take time to adjust to the differences in both climes. Too many differences.

Now I see reasons behind your previous comment. It cant be possible to get comfortable in Nigeria without a silver spoon bro. There's a lot to beware about " bigotry, electricity, data, security, health care, basically average life amenities" these things your now country provides for you, you cant find here in your father's sh*t hole land. I always tell people "Home isn't where you're from but where you're being taken care of " .

You can come as tourists here but never think of getting comfortable if you're not an elite.

Politicians are powerful members of foreign societies. This has to be considered, no? Which court will determine forfeiture and based on what/whose investigation? These questions, and more, need answers before proceeding in the direction you prescribe.
