During the investigation, the owner of the Shawarma spot, Chimezie Amaechi; the deceased's friend, Kazeem Okikiola; the Manager of the Avid Bar, Olayinka Oyedokun, and his friends, Femi Victor, Taiwo Morokola, and Omole Wasiu were arrested. These suspects are giving useful information that can assist the police in the investigation.

How is the bar owner a suspect? Witness and suspect are two completely different things. Lazy policemen

The native doctor should be arrested also. He must be a specialist in removing pellets on armed robbers. Meanwhile, the police is doing a great job. There's more to this. The person who was not there when they had quarrel is now the one shot. Cooked story. They took him to a general hospital where they cleaned him up, on their way to another general hospital,he died. They took him to his brother at ipaja where he died. Wack! Wack!! Wack!!! Police should also arrest this reporter undecided

You guys don't know how to read in between. They took him first to MERIT hospital which you want to be closed and then GENERAL HOSPITAL TOO....Why not close the general hospital who referred him to another one too? Nigerians usually misinterpret referral to rejection. The so called MERIT obviously did not have the capability to handle it. All they needed to do at most was just set up a drip like normal saline and then REFER. In the process, they may ask for POLICE REPORT but that doesn't mean they are referring for lack of police report. For you to know how critical the case was....the general hospital too REFERRED TO ANOTHER GENERAL HOSPITAL. It means the case was meant for a tertiary centre probably with CRITICAL CARE UNIT. The problem we have is the referral system which you can blame on govt. There should be free ambulance services that anyone can call that will take them to appropriate centres. You present a bad case to a glorified clinic and they ask you to go to general hospital, you will start blaming them that they rejected you. What should they do? They can't handle it....it is not the same thing as rejection. However when patient are reporting it, they will term it rejection because you asked them to take him to general hospital. They will keep saying....help us to attend to him now.

in accordance to the incident report, the deceased was rejected at Merit Hospital for lack of "police report". if there were other issues as it concerns Merit's actions, it wasn't stated.
we know every hospitals are of different capabilities, but the narrative of rejecting gunshot wounds for lack of police report, sounds like a broken record we all tired of. let other professional reasons be given that won't have to make lives seem worthless.

NPF is the worst police force in the world as per the World Policing Index. Stories like this one helps cement our position. Unlawful arrests of potential witnesses, no door to door canvassing to speak with witnesses or CCTV enquiries, no crime scene closure or forensic examination of the scene ( who am I kidding sef we do not even have a DNA database). The police are trying to pin the culprit on evidence gained from torture las las. The NPF require a lot of training and resources.

Whoever made that rule that the Hospital should not treat a GunShot wound except their is a Police Report, also needs to be shot.
What they should have done is say: Start the Treatment BUT INFORm the Police immediately, to come over and "attend" to the Gunshot Victim, be he innocent or an armed robber.

Also, this "Police Madness" of arresting ecerybody in-sight when an incident happens, needs to stop.
It is the reason the frined of the Victim did not go to the Police, because he knows they will just arrest him.
This crude method should stop because all they use it for is extortion of innocent people.
here is no need to detain everybody, just do an on-the-spot assesement, get details of everyone involved and only keep the most directly involved (Trigger-man) while you go on with your discreet investigation.
If there is need to invite and make further arrest, that possibility is always there.

IGP, you better cordinate yourself and your boys. undecided

“Immediately the incident happened , his friends rushed him to the Merit Hospital where he was rejected because there was no police report.

"Hospital one" rejected him for unavailability of police report when they could have proceeded with the treatment; then, call the police to come to the hospital and, if need be, handcuff the victim/suspect as the case may be...

He was later referred to the General Hospital, Otta, Ogun State, where he was cleaned up and transferred to the General Hospital in Abeokuta.

"Hospital two"...a government owned hospital also referred him to another government owned hospital after cleaning him up. Apparently the bullet wasn't taken out. I guess at this point, they thought of going traditional as police report will not be required to revive him there...
but they thought ignorantly — their only crime in all these. embarassed

They would never have resulted to such if "Hospital one" and perhaps, "two" did the right thing.

But instead of taking him to Abeokuta, they took him to a native doctor to remove the bullet from his body

This was all in a bid to save him.

C'mon, what would you have them do after two rejections over a mere police report? It's inconsequential here, as a life was at stake. Gosh!!!

and returned him to the General Hospital in Otta, but he was rejected.

You see why I said, they were only trying to save him??.??
They felt their only hindrance to a proper treatment was the bullet factor. Perhaps, if they took it out themselves, that would make further treatment less incommodious...

He died on the way to another hospital.”

How many more hospitals were they going to press their lucks before getting treatment??.??

Unfortunately, he died not because of the gun shot...the system killed him!!

This country needs an overhaul!!! embarassed

so why did GENERAL HOSPITAL SENT HIM AWAY TOO? You think doctors are foolish? No doctor will tell you they are rejecting him for police report. They will tell you to take him to general hospital. I can bet my balls that is exactly what happened. They may ask for police report because when police start their investigation, they will still come and ask you about the case and you can just tell them you asked them to take him.to general hospital and you asked for report at that time but they had none yet. On the day Barca was defeated, a drunk guy hit five guys critically. They brought the five to us without any report. The police at the site refused to help the people transport the victims. They wanted to tow the vehicle since the guy had escaped and police knew that was the only way to trace him so rather than help the victims they didn't. Four were deeply unconscious and we asked them to move them to GH they were begging. We accepted two, two died and one was eventually moved. One just came out of coma about two days ago. We did that because we had the capability to treat....they were rejected by two other hospitals but I also know those hospitals couldn't handle it. No doctor...I repeat....no doctor will categorically tell you I am rejecting you for lack of police report. It is a lie

I thought the law of police report before treating a gunshot victim has been trashed? What the hell is wrong with this country.
As for me, as much as possible, I try to avoid conflict in public. There are mad men, cultists, serial killers and ritualists who would kill and say it is the devil when caught.

So sad he was somewhere minding his own business now he has exchanged his life for his friend's life. The bullet was meant for the friend. Why did they not take him direct to a proper hospital in the first instance instead of native doc? Why did the first hospital reject him because there was no police report. They should have treated him first and called police. The whole case is so sad over shawama

Why arresting the deceased's friends and owner of the sharwama joint while the culprit is still at large? I hoe the police don't push the murder charges on their heads if they're unable to find the culprit or if the "suspects" are unable to bail themselves out.

Rejected rejected rejected. This confirms that we have become worse than animals in this nation. Police report while life gradually drains out of a victim. Why not treat and invite the police?

Sad.. Realistically and void of prejudice, his friend has a lot of questions to answer. I think almost every Nigerian in the urban world knows how the system works concerning bullet injuries in Nigeria. He had the time to report the case, for reasons best known to him, chose not to. This may be just another unfortunate case of "bullet missing target" or just maybe, premeditated murder.

No problem then. You believed the report from a journalist who is just interested in sensational news to gather traffic and you insist on crucifying hospitals and doctors. Every single doctor knows you can now treat a patient without police report in Nigeria because it is now a law so which doctor will now tell you I won't treat for police report. All those reports you were hearing were distorted. However, as a typical Nigerian with a mindset, you will want to insist it is true. General hospital Ota should be closed for not attending to the patient. Now you are happy.
